  1. Hi All, I'm pretty noob at my car, its an XD fairmont with a 250 xflow. The challenge i am having is that the car wont start, but there is some history here so bare with me.... I drove it for a fair few km's one day to grab some parts for it and it died (when i say died we turned the engine off and it just wouldn't start up again). Got it towed back home and through the troubleshooting process did the following: did the carby with a carby kit (gaskets etc) new plugs and leads new coil Checked timing I ended up getting a mechanic to look at it and they replaced the dizzy with a spare and he was able to get it running (however said the actual issue was weak spark due to cable from the coil). So we drove it for a week and then it died again, and here is where i'm at: There is fuel in the bowl and when you pump the pedal fuel squirts in There is spark (removed number 1 plug, put it in the lead and held to engine block and its sparks when you crank) There is compression (put finger in plug hole to check) So where i got to was timing/distributor. When checking it with timing gun its set to 6 degrees and it cranks but wont start (not even a splutter), when you full retard the dizzy it almost starts. Any suggestions where i go to from here? The thing i really cant get my head around is what could have changed between it work and then not working. Gav

Been a while, getting back into life with a new partner and a 7 month old baby, current rides in our house are a pair of vs Holden's, hers a use mines a sedan.   3. Hey guys, New too the forum. Looking to buy a 351 Xd, the buy seems good and all the only little situation I’m having is doing a REVs check. Since the xd has the 16 digit vin I can’t search the ppsr to see if it’s stolen. Not sure if this is a silly question. How do I find out if it’s stolen? Cheers
  4. Hi Guys, Thought I'd jump on board and show some pics of my Fords.... I have a genuine 135,000k, matching numbers, factory manual (T/L) 351 XD Fairmont Ghia with 17" wheels and extactors that I am restoring. Progress shots and details of the resto can be seen here I also have a 5.0l V8 DC LTD strech limo with a carbon fibre (look) roof, 20" wheels and and electronic dump valve on the ehxaust.   5. Just wondering if there are any replacement motors for the X series window winders.?? Has anyone tried EF maybe BA or equivalent? Mine are OK, in the ZL, but a couple are a bit slow. Tried lube, graphite powder, beeswax, but still seems the motors are dragging their arse a bit. Can they be rewound? Maybe just swapping the rear to the front might help, as they have done less work over the years. Cheers Bear.
  6. ok in this thread im going to try and clear alot of confusion between the different doors i'm going to start with confusion between xg/h doors and Xd/e/f doors (I know d to f theirs differences) At the front end of the door apart from the hardware used and a rebuildable hinge their the same. At the back is where the difference starts. I'll start with the lock mechanism in xd/f it's external on the door and the catch is almost a flat plate and the catch a xg/h it's internal e series type and the catch is a round bar and its catch Ok now it comes to the door handles xg/h door handles and most aftermarket handles will fit a xd/e/f but not the other way around Hears a pic of a genuine Xh handle from the inside Hears a d/e/f handle from the inside Now you can mix and match but it takes a bit of nounce. xd/e/f doors are a common conversion on g/h but you have to weld the holes up on a def catch and 're drill to suit the xg/h body Door handles can be swapped the reverse way by drilling a hole if you have enough metal or drilling of the pivot mechanism and fitting your g/h pivot mechanism and 're securing it with a self tapping screw or a bolt. that concludes this section as i grab some more doors out of my parts rack i'll update the differences between xg and xh doors also the differences between the xd/e and xf doors
  7. Has anyone ever seen any decent looking bonnet blackouts or GT style stripes? All the ones I have seen look crap, but there must be a way to make them look good. Otherwise a Shaker or BA Bonnet Bulge does look good. I am tossing up my options.
  8. Ok so Id thought Id start a thread for those of us who are panno mad. What does your van have? My XF has barns and my XD has tailgates. Im trying to figure out a way to have a handle on the inside of the upper tailgate so it makes it easier for camping. Anyone got any ideas? share the things you have done or want to do! Keep on vannin!
  9. G'day everyone, I have another project. This time its a 1981 XD, S pack, factory V8, panel van, it has a full length headlining, bucket seats, Auto trans, disc rear end, tailgates, dual fuel, 17" mag wheels, boxes and arch in the back, XF front guards and bonnet and door trims, XG grille, XH wing mirrors and XH rear bar. What it needs: Gas converter, new gaskets and seals for the engine, gearbox and diff. (rebuild the lot @ the same time), new uni joints and balance tailshaft, wheel bearings, fix rust and respray, re do trear fit out, retrim seats, locate XD Door trims and console. find some wheels that will fit without the use of spacers! Pics will be added. Engine, bay is still in original Hermitage Red.
  10. Hay y'all, Ok so as some of you would know by now-I am new to the major vehicle restoration thingy. I am looking to do as much as I can myself, this includes body repairs, preparation, maybe even paint-(thats a while off yet though). The first thing is: I have a large amount of rust in the XD van Im considering doing up, I may see what I can obtain in the way of rust replacement sections and donor bodies to cut out what I need. I may have to hand fab as well. My questions (so far) are these: What size steel do I use?
