    Fuel consumption....

Gday Lads, hope everyone’s been ok in these very uncertain times . If your anything like me “isolate yourself” means working on Falcon and Harley . Anyway question is I recently got my XG Falcon and I have enjoyed pulling cluster, fixing odometer, changing dash lights to LED, running a sexy tray liner and tarp and generally messing with it. However I am very bewildered buy the fuel consumption of this thing ? For it being a six cylinder it’s actually ridiculous how much fuel this thing uses just driving it normally not towing or anything. I had a hilux with an LS2 in it and yeah that chewed juice but come on...that was a beast. I was telling a mate about it the other day and he laughed and said that’s just the straight 6 for ya. Is he right? Are they just very uneconomical? Or is there something I can check or do? cheers in advance guys

    Xg ute high beam loss

Hey guys, needing some help. Lost my high beams the other night and when I turn them on I lose my low beams as well. Relay still works cause you can hear it. What could it be?
  3. Hey fellow ford nuts. I have an idea to preserve my xg while its rebuild begins. Auto to manual. Would it be to much work to convert the xg column shift auto 4 speed to the 5 speed manual. I want to replace the engine and I thought the manual version of the xg would it fit in?. Is there a difference in the auto transmission and manual gear box, size wise or fitting sizes that might make fitting into the auto xg an issue? I also understand that the gear stick needs a cut and fit but am I allowed to do this or does an engineer need to do this? I just haven't been able to find information on this topic. Any information or ideas would be good help. Thanks in advance

doors doors and doors their not all the same

ok in this thread im going to try and clear alot of confusion between the different doors i'm going to start with confusion between xg/h doors and Xd/e/f doors (I know d to f theirs differences) At the front end of the door apart from the hardware used and a rebuildable hinge their the same. At the back is where the difference starts. I'll start with the lock mechanism in xd/f it's external on the door and the catch is almost a flat plate and the catch a xg/h it's internal e series type and the catch is a round bar and its catch Ok now it comes to the door handles xg/h door handles and most aftermarket handles will fit a xd/e/f but not the other way around Hears a pic of a genuine Xh handle from the inside Hears a d/e/f handle from the inside Now you can mix and match but it takes a bit of nounce. xd/e/f doors are a common conversion on g/h but you have to weld the holes up on a def catch and 're drill to suit the xg/h body Door handles can be swapped the reverse way by drilling a hole if you have enough metal or drilling of the pivot mechanism and fitting your g/h pivot mechanism and 're securing it with a self tapping screw or a bolt. that concludes this section as i grab some more doors out of my parts rack i'll update the differences between xg and xh doors also the differences between the xd/e and xf doors
  5. I went into Repco today and got quoted $50 per ball joint upper and lower both sides = $200. He gave me a part number 7510 upper and 7512 lower jbj brand but I haven't been able to find this part online to see if it is good with wear or any information on this ball joint. Has anyone found cheaper ball joints that are not sealed. Sealed is ok if it is cheaper. I want to replace both sides in one hit but just for now I want to replace the screwed ball point to run it to repair places. I do however wish to do the full repair in one hit to avoid having to jack the car up and do another hour of so of work completing the others. So has anyone found any cheaper ones for the XG or is this a good prices. What is the price different with sealed or greasable, if any.
  6. Since I have been the owner of my beating down XG 1994 model I have began to slowly fixed issues wrong with it. This issue is one that I have not been able to see a workshop about. It is is the temp gauge. The car seems to not overheat one bit. I have checked the thermostat and it seems to be opening and closing at the right moments. I know this may be easy to fix but I am not what you say a car smart person as I work with computers in the networking engineering department, this complete new world I say.. haha. The temp gauge does move to cool temps but it does not go into operating temperature unless hailing a lot of weight. I am not sure if its the gauge or the temperature sensor. Is there ways to tell what could the issue be. Any easy test?
