    I think it would be more likely to be the alternator belt, rather than the steer belt.
    The steer belt is under very little load unless you are turning, whereas the alternator starts charging at a high level immediately on start to recover the charge lost while cranking, then reduces charge rate.
    That said, it would pay to check all belts.
    What is the car, what engine?

    Check fuel pump, fuel regulator and/or Map sensor.

    Still kicks then runs on all cylinders for a second tgen cuts out.

    Anymore info..?  Really hard to diagnose over the 'Net.
     
    Still cranks, but never 'kicks'
    Runs, but on 5 cylinders
    Ignition leads, module, coil pack? 
    Blocked fuel filter
    Collapsed air filter
    Immobiliser?

    I'll give it a go after i get back from the drs. I think i fractured my knuckle, when my spanner slipped while pretending to be a motorcycle mechanic. I blame the cat.

    Hay man I also have a xg and I no you sead all the fuses are good however my ute died on me and day and I pulled each fuse out one by one and put them back in and one off the blue fuses made a little spark and she started straight away might be worth a go or a waist off time
