Phila 10 Posted April 28, 2021 Gday Just looking for some advice. Ive got an xd ute with a pretty tidy interior but i want to repair a crack in the centre console and the mounting points that are snapped off. I also want to repair the usual breaks in the side speaker grilles in the dash. So im looking for what glue will best fix this type of plastic? I will also do a bit of plastic welding to strengthen it Any advice is appreciated. Phil
bear351c 10,270 Posted April 29, 2021 Try Googleing "Q bond" used to repair Ford grilles etc, etc. Around the 3:00 minute mark. 1 roKWiz reacted to this
deankxf 20,288 Posted April 29, 2021 i'd try JB WELD.. i like it so far, but haven't tried it on many plastics yet 1 roKWiz reacted to this

Phila 10 Posted May 1, 2021 thanks to both of you for your advice .. they both look like good options .. ive bought the JB Weld 2 part urethane adhesive...see if that works... ive got a spare glovebox that im going to take cuts out of to make up reinforcing for the broken areas 1 1 deankxf and roKWiz reacted to this

Phila 10 Posted June 18, 2021 Sorry its taken a while to respond, work etc gto in the way of things .. I bought the JB Weld. See the pics of the fix the JB weld smells same as Aryldite .. but im guessing its just a very good quality version of it .. if you are patient and leave the item alone for a few days after clamping its stuck like it was never broken here are some pics .. 1 2 roKWiz, deankxf and bear351c reacted to this
bear351c 10,270 Posted June 18, 2021 Excellent.! That has come up MINT.! JB weld and Araldite are similar products, both use a 2 part epoxy. Should be stronger than the original plastic. You could even epoxy a small piece of metal/alloy on the back of the plastic for added strength. 1 deankxf reacted to this
deankxf 20,288 Posted June 18, 2021 yeah i'd have considered reinforcing if the dash part was solid but it might break next. i'd probably support it to the floor better. does look good though.

It feels very strong now .. ive tested installing it and its fine ... Im just in the process of reinstalling the dash, after completely refirbing the heater and vacuum controls .. will post a pic(s) when im done 1 deankxf reacted to this
