winton 399 Posted January 12, 2019 Hi All, So my engine has develop a noise which I would describe as a chatter from around 3000 rpm. Normal driving I change gear around 3000 and the engine produces the chatter noise. If I put my foot down the engine make more of a rattling noise from 3000 up but it's not as noticeable. Im thinking valve train so I checked and adjusted the lash at .020, no change. I thinking possibly harmonic vibration, hope not. Anyone have any ideas or what else it could possibly be? Cheers

gerg 10,871 Posted January 13, 2019 Is it only while driving or can you pop the hood and free-rev it to make the noise? Sent from my CPH1607 using Tapatalk

Cheers My gemini has made some horrible noises from oddball things. one was loose alternator making a knocking noise and vibration.. the most recent(now you've reminded me) is air cleaner lid has a cracked weld (that i did) that has it vibrating at about 3000 ish rpm falcons over the years have had the heat sheild do similar over the exhaust flange, clutch cable spring missing making the fork rattle and BELTS.. try tipping some water over the fan belt, see if it goes away

I am going to pull the trans to check when I have a chance.

Pretty sure if it was a fan belt issues the belt would liberate it's self but I'll check it out 1 deankxf reacted to this

(naturally it was much worse at bigger revs) was alternator bolt missing
