CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 8, 2016 Can anyone shed some light on why these green rocker cover engines are more popular on e bay ,from what i have been able to find is that they have a better conrod or the same one as the turbo engine, and they are of higher compression,im getting itchy to buy another engine to play around with and i figure go for a barra BF /FG engine and strip it down and then order some atomic gear to start to suuuuup it up for a turbo,i think from BF onwards the rod's are better than BA please anyone chime in on any good info cheer's. CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 8, 2016 Looking to build a nice 300kw engine similar to what comes out in the xr6 T.but starting with a base engine keep the rod's,get the low comp pistons, and stainless exhaust valves fitted,if keeping it to a mild set up,probly dont need the atomic gear, with exhaust manifolds i see those 6boost ones for a lot of cash. tpak addict 1,909 Posted August 9, 2016 They use the same rod as the turbo Barra's... or should I say the Turbo Barra's use the same rods as the egas as they were developed for the Egas first. 1 Thom reacted to this
CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 10, 2016 so i can keep the rod's that's a start. 1 tpak addict reacted to this

CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 10, 2016 i no the mahle are quite expensive ,but is there another option to loose some compression like can the factory pistons be milled 100 thou ?
tpak addict 1,909 Posted August 10, 2016 Dont know.... could always use a compression plate I guess..
CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 10, 2016 I no you can get one for the crossy but em err yeah maybe ?-a second hand set of factory turbo slugs would be ok in a budget build.
tpak addict 1,909 Posted August 10, 2016 Few people have turbocharged a stock egas motor before.... Run on E85.. problem solved hehe
CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 11, 2016 without lowering the compression ?
Valvebouncer 2,389 Posted August 11, 2016 Yep, it's quite a popular replacement for people to do when their original turbo motor goes bang. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CHESTNUTXE 7,330 Posted August 11, 2016 I thought the gas engine was even higher compression than the normal one.
tpak addict 1,909 Posted August 11, 2016 Egas motor is cheaper than a turbo motor... When it goes bang, get another one....
tpak addict 1,909 Posted August 11, 2016 I thought the gas engine was even higher compression than the normal one. Only on BA... BA ULP 9.7:1 Egas 10.7:1 BF are both 10.3:1 ULP & Egas FG S1 10.3:1 FG S2 (EcoLPi) 12:
