animal250 0 Posted February 23, 2015 I have a TFI dizzy that doesn't sit into my 86da block.. It has a new crow cam installed and using the dg2 dizzy gear. The cam is installed with welsh plug and all, so I can't check but it feels like the gears aren't alligned as you can force it in most of the way with a bit of tapping but then it gets really tight... but the same dizzy with dg2 gear just slips nicely into an 84da block and standard cammed engine I have. Anyone care to tell me what is going on? Should I just 'tap' it in with a mallet and hope for the best? Haha.
deankxf 20,314 Posted February 23, 2015 the oil pump drive might be a little out, try moving the gear on the dizzy one or two teeth advanced it should drop in, then remove it and align it with number one in the right spot. it should fit. the oil pump drive can be hard to engage sometimes(thats the hex/allen key slot inside the dizzy shaft.. mates with the oil pump drive)
thunderbolt 150 Posted February 23, 2015 its because the oil pump shaft isn't lined up. if you have a spare dizzy shaft with no gear on it use that to turn the oil pump shaft and try again
ando76 4,354 Posted February 23, 2015 As said the oil pump drive (hex piece) is not lined up correctly. I use an 8mm, long socket on an extension to turn the shaft to the correct position - works a treat. Just don't drop the socket or extension down into the sump - yes I have done it. 2 Outback Jack and thunderbolt reacted to this
