Anyone fitted a double DIN unit to an XE?

Just wondering if any one has fitted a double Din screen unit to an Xe dash?

 

Did it fit ok and was there much modification to make it sit in right?

 

Not that im to fussed about modifying the car a bit!

pretty sure the Ltd's had a double din from factory.

 

the ltd i had also had a kenwood double din and did not look like they changed much to fit it in there

You be the first hendrixhc. I bought a double din unit for Nana a few years ago, it was a brand new unit 

from a Hyundai santa fe, the then owner had the sat nav up garde so i bought the standard unit off them

anyway,,,,, Nana being an XF she only has the plastic pocket at the bottom of the centre dash and i reckon

with some small mods you could make it work.

If i was to attempt it in XD/XE you could do away with the 2 grey centre dash piece's and make a 1 piece

from a piece of perspex, cut a hole for the stereo face, glue on some mounting brackets  and use piece's 

from a meccano set to secure the unit in the dash itself. Some foam insulation 3 parts around the unit,

paint the perspex the same colour as the car and presto. 

Make a card board template and see what needs doing.

Yeah i was hoping someone had done all the brain work for me Steve.

 

I dont think it would be to hard to make it fit in the bottom 2 areas. My only concern is the depth of the unit and actually mounting it in the dash not obscuring anything behind it.

 

I am kind of intending to recolour or more technically correct, vinyl wrapping with carbon fibre the centre sections anyways so making up new face plates is not a biggy.

 

i guess i was just looking for a quick answer cause JBs have a $600 Kenwood unit out for $268 today!

My Ltd has a triple din sized hole at the moment. I might have to buy me a little android tablet. Android makes more sense for this as my tablet can have a hard drive plugged in via USB as well as a slot for a 32gig micro SD card.
