SLO247 1,713 Posted August 30, 2014 Just bought an XF ute. Heater is stuck on. Doesnt matter what you do with the temp selector. I've checked and the cable is connected and the arm is moving. It varies from hot to fucking volcanic. The tap is stuck open. Haven't checked for vacuum yet. The tap physically moves if I move the lever. What actually switches the vac supply on and off? If it has vacuum I guess I'll change the tap. Does it fit the wrong way? If it doesn't where is it switched? Everything is connected that I can see behind the glovebox and to the tap itself. The green line is running to it. I'd like to get it sorted rather than cable tie the tap shut. Would like some ideas before I hit it tommorow.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted August 30, 2014 I had an opposite problem when I first got my Ghia. Do you have to push the lever down on the tap? If so, pushing it down actually opens it from memory. Because I had to cable tie mine open (lever down) to get any heat. It was still like that when I was in the accident though, so I can't help with sorting it properly. Mr Polson 10,214 Posted August 30, 2014 And yes, the tap can go in the wrong way, but I don't think itd make a difference. Just be harder for it to open because it would be against the flow I assume. Could the heater hoses be on the wrong outlets? Not sure if it can affect heating, just an idea.
deankxf 20,346 Posted August 31, 2014 remove the heater tap, they corrode and fail internally often. could be just due for replacement. if you can see the heater tap, change the heater setting from cold to hot and see if its moved the lever on the tap.. if so, its rooted. if it doesn't move, then you have a vac issue somewhere. 1 XTREME KARTS XF reacted to this
SLO247 1,713 Posted August 31, 2014 So I checked it today. I unplugged it and It has vacuum, maybe a little weak. Plugged it back in and it could only pull it about half way closed. If I push it closed It will hold it closed. I gave it a good spray and moved it a few times. Seems to move freely. I may try a new one. Its an 84 build and still has its vac amplifier. Has a high idle too. Perhaps this is causing problems?
