S-Pac Jake 9 Posted October 9, 2023 Hi all. Having some issues with my 1992 xf Ute. It’s running and EST dizzy system (no module on the side of dizzy, and map sensor on the fire wall). It will just stop running out of no where. Happened to me twice while driving both st random stages, but now seems to be happening more frequently. It doesn’t idle rough and still pulls strong through its rev range. Like I said it just turns off randomly, both while driving and idling. Any one able to shed some light onto what my issues might be. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mustardxf2 310 Posted October 9, 2023 Hey mate I had similar problems once upon a time, car would be fine drive fine do everything thing it should but would shut off randomly turning corners, and then would not start until it was cooled down. Check and inspect your distributor cap, rotor button and the plastic case the rotor button rotates on for any small cracks. I pulled mine and found a small crack that was opening up once hot and swapped it out and never had an issue again. deankxf 20,290 Posted October 9, 2023 Coil is a common thing to shut down when hot. that would be the first thing i'd swap. if the coil is HOT when it conks out, that would be enough for Me to swap it. if it's cool, then maybe look elsewhere, does it fire up again soon after or need to wait for something to possibly cool down? Mustardxf2 310 Posted October 10, 2023 I hunted this problem for months when I had it happen swapped coils multiple times and was deadset a small crack in the dizzy body that I found when I was swapping it out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 deankxf reacted to this

Happened to me once while cruising on a cool day. shut off came back to me 5 minutes after it shut off. Last time just shut off randomly while idling for a little while. Happened to me once after leaving my driveway around the corner from my house. Not too positive it’s heat related but might just change it anyways. SPArKy_Dave 8,881 Posted October 10, 2023 I'd look at replacing the hall effect sensor inside the distributor. A failing sensor, commonly causes the issue you describe. 1 S-Pac Jake reacted to this
Mustardxf2 310 Posted October 10, 2023 Next time it does it have a spare coil on hand to swap out and see if that fixes it, if not do test to see if if distributor is putting a spark signal out and or getting spark when crankingSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 S-Pac Jake reacted to this

Any idea where I’d be able to get a new Hall effect sensor for it?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 SPArKy_Dave reacted to this
