Transmision change over
Mr Polson replied to Michael morunga's topic in Transmission and Differential
EFI xflows still had the BW40. Was only EA and 88+ XF (ute/van) that had the BW51. The EFI BW40 is different internally but will still work fine behind a carby motor (and vice versa) -
Two brake pedal switches on XF Ghia and one on clutch. No neutral switch AFAIK. If one switch fails the system won't work, same if one is unplugged. I had issues with the solder on the cruise computer in my white wagon, little box in behind the trip computer/clock. Resoldered the poor connections and never had another issue. Think the trip computer/clock has to be connected and working too as the brake light circuit runs through that.

That Century batteries are the only Australian made ones. The way you worded it makes it sound like only the yellow and blue batteries that Century are Aus made, whereas many other brands also are, by Century for someone else. I asked our Century rep once, and his answer was something along the the lines of just sell the customer a terminal as well if they've still got a bolt through type connection at the battery. If you grind and/or drill it your warranty is void.
-
False Dave. Century are the only company that make batteries in Australia, but they also make quite a few batteries for other brand names. Both SCA and Repco batteries are Century, mostly Aussie made batteries in different coloured cases with different stickers. And correct on no battery to suit X series - they no longer provide holes in any of their terminals.

I've seen it happen before, the Speedo needle thing that is. Never knew what caused it. Both my XFs have a wire going straight from back of alt to battery positive to add direct charge to the battery. One of them never used to have it, and it struggled to keep the battery charged.

Same size box unless you're looking at really early ones. Mostly just internal upgrades. I'm fairly sure tailshafts are the same. Think it was 82 or 83 the box changed?

Should, yes, Must, no. XD - XF didn't have a shroud factory unless they had AC and/or tow pack with the big radiator.

http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/7027-ford-registered-technician-bulletin-eec-iv-xf/%5B/ That link will include some information on the TFI dizzy, which was only used in the XF EFI. XE EFI used a normal vac dizzy.

Bowden's Wax is design for maximum gloss and shine, rather than protection. They have synthetic sealants (Afterglow and Fully Slick) that have longer lasting protection than the Body Wax will. Best way to use them is wax, let it cure (4hrs+) and then either (or both) Afterglow or FS. The sealants can also be layered on top for longer protection

XH XR8 trans changes down at 100km by its self to 3rd issue
Mr Polson replied to XH II XR8's topic in Transmission and Differential
I must admit my auto services have always been done by a mechanic with a flush machine, hook it up to the trans line and run the car, pumps old fluid out new fluid in, often takes 2x/3x times the fluid capacity to come out clean. I've also been using Penrite for years, engine, diff, gearboxes (auto and manual), brake fluid, greases. And Dave, as for why is TQ95 still on the shelf? Because Castrol is awful for updating their products, and representing and educating about their oils. I've been with Repco over 3 years now, and never seen a Castrol rep in either store I've worked in, and minimal product updates. Penrite I see a rep each fortnight, and continuous product improvements, new releases and product info. -
XH XR8 trans changes down at 100km by its self to 3rd issue
Mr Polson replied to XH II XR8's topic in Transmission and Differential
Absolutely can, that's what's in my mum's auto AU, and my brothers BA and a friend's BA, and all of their gearboxes drive fine. I've even got Penrite FS ATF in my XF in the BW40. -
XH XR8 trans changes down at 100km by its self to 3rd issue
Mr Polson replied to XH II XR8's topic in Transmission and Differential
Why? Most Dex III ATFs have been improved to meet BTR specs. Penrite does a semi-synthetic oil that will definitely work in them, and almost any fully synthetic trans oil would also work in them. -
I may be completely wrong, but I've always thought one reason the XF/EEC4 wouldn't like a cam may be partially to do with lack of vacuum? Don't you tend to lose vacuum with a bigger cam, depending on specs? As we all know, the EEC4 engines are particularly vacuum dependant, no loose dipstick or poor oil cap seal.

Spare parts is definitely the main focus but Repco does also do car care, accessories etc [emoji23] Repco also has a usable website now so can even look on there
-
Have you checked out SCA or Repco? My Repco has 24 headunits n our board, and most of these are kept in stock. It's only really high series modern cars that can't have the radios updated easily, most of the Japanese and Korean cars can still have their head units swapped out, just costs a bit for all the facia kits. Falcons have to be the least supported models in terms of aftermarket upgrades, especially BA onwards.

When the bodyworks place painted the bonnet on my wagon they managed to damage the thread for one of the bolts. They just tapped it out to a bigger size and put a new bolt in it (which doesn't match the others [emoji52] ) Ive never managed to damage one.

Yep, JVC and Kenwood are the same company. Most single DIN units still have the removable faceplate, just a lot more hidden as to how you remove them these days.

THis may be the wrong site to ask this on... Bought the avaliable sat nav update for my G6E (MkII FG). Received it in the mail today, a SD card. Now, the "instructions" that came with the SD card say to follow the on screen prompts of the Sat Nav. Which tells me to insert a Flash Drive. Now Ive searched the car for a SD card slot, which it must not have. I've tried a SD card/USB convertor and get a "Invalid Map Data" error. I've tried copying the data off the SD card onto a USB and get the same error codes. Anyone have any advice besides contacting Ford (thats on the to do list). Have tried searching the web but not finding much relating to the MkII FGs.

We've been told by the Penrite sales reps that in Tassie we don't need to use demineralised water with coolant because our tap water is rather soft compared to other places. Century still recommend it for their batteries though. We have access to some pretty comprehensive info on the Penrite products, I'll have a look today and see if it provides any further info about their water if you'd like.

Depends on condition and if they can be verified to be working correctly. I've paid up to $70 for the complete premium unit, and what I've found is a lot of them have a strange issue where they struggle to power up (Panko knows what I mean I think). Ultra desirable - no, unless you find a XF Ghia/ZL/FE owner wanting one.
-
Dean's on the money, they're the radiator coolant low circuit wires, for XF Ghia, ZL and FE. If the radiator was ever replaced the replacement may not have the tabs needed for the sensor hence the wires being disconnected

Relatively easy job to swap cam with motor in car, I had to do it to my old XF wagon when it wiped a cam lobe not long after I got it. Are you located in Hobart (based on your username?)
-
While you have it out and apart, BA wiper motors fit straight on, you just have to rewire the plug, they're quoted, faster and better...

My old Ghia had the vacuum tank in the plenum, that was unleaded EFI.
