XH II XR8 posted a topic in Transmission and DifferentialA couple of questions, on a 1998 XH XR8 what controls the kick down? driving at 100kmph cruising with light throttle the trans will kick back to 3rd gear by its self, by pushing you foot to the floor will make it change back up again at high revs to top gear. at times jumps straight back to third but comes right for 50-100km or so then with no issue. a 200km trip could see it do it 3-4 times. trans shifts smooth, functions normally other than this kicking down by its self. any thoughts people? cable? solenoids? sensor of some sort?
Hi all, I have a 3 spd auto carbi xf. I have a LSD disc brake diff out of an e series I think that I want to put into my car. I know I need to change the master cylinder. Anything else? I think my dad said I might need to change hand brake cable. I also want to t5 swap it. For that I will need a crossmember and gearbox mounts which I can get from Castlemaine Rod Shop or an XG or XH. A manual pedal box which I have at my local wreckers waiting to be picked up. Will I need a bellhousing out of a t5 XG? And then later on this year I want to put an AU intech non VCT motor in. I can do the job I just need to find all the info and I've been reading up the past month and am struggling a little bit. If anyone has any info or can post links to threads that they know might have info it would be greatly appreciated. It dont want to pay someone to put it in id rather attempt it and learn something from it. So far I know I will need XG engine mounts, I will most likely go standalone ECU or chip the au ecu to bypass smartlock. Im going to need an xg bellhousing to adapt the t5 to the au motor in the future. XG swaybar doesnt clear the au sump so im gonna have to go custom I think. Any more info or links is greatly appreciated. Would not even think of doing stuff like this without this forum.
I have just purchased an AU series II XR8 for $3000 with a RWC and a few months reg and must say that i'm pretty happy so far. The car has dual fuel and is an auto, but that's ok for me. It has most of the clear coming off the paint, and the boot struts need work, has BA XR8 wheels, but it seems to drive ok and has also been a very useful tow car! Cheers all!!
picked this up to get myself out of a bind about 12 months ago. its a S1 fairmont ghia with all the options. it had its share of issues when i picked it up, but nothing i could fix so i managed to talk the owner down a fair amount. mechanically it was fairly sound, the main issue being a faulty ABS/traction control module cosmetically it was rough, with a large dent on the drivers door, scarpes on the front and rear bars, and i have since nicked a pole (idiot) and put a dent on the rear passenger wheel arch. the interior was bad, real bad. so i chucked some seat covers on and ignored it for a while.
