Are 8inch and 9inch diff gears interchangeable? i currently have 4:11 in the car at the moment which is a 9inch diff, but have 3:45 in the shed in a 8inch diff wondering if they could be of use as 4:11 are a bit high any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers. Thom 6,654 Posted January 17, 2017 9inch and 8inch refers to the size of the crown wheel so short answer is no they won't interchange, a 8inch housing can be modified to fit a 9 inch center but not the other way around you'd end up with a hell of an oil leak, your best off selling the 8inch if you have no use for it and getting a set of 9 gears 1 bear351c reacted to this Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
