Banno 479 Posted May 22, 2014 Does anyone know what the bolt/thread size is for the front crankshaft where the harmonic balancer on a 83DA block?
BigCav 464 Posted May 22, 2014 ford parts manual lists xf as m14-1.5x40mm
ando76 4,354 Posted May 22, 2014 I've always used 9/16 unf in the crank bolts for everything up to and including 84DA. I'd have to get my thread pitch gauge out but they would probably be pretty close to that metric thread above. 83DA block would be earlier than XF so I would think it would be imperial. gerg 10,871 Posted May 23, 2014 Didn't they go metric only on the very late XFs? Maybe 87-onwards? Cranks I mean... Flywheel bolts too
Banno 479 Posted May 23, 2014 Thanks guys. I was thinking the same with imperial but wasnt sure when they changed to metric if that included the 83'block.
ando76 4,354 Posted May 23, 2014 I would think that only the 86da block would have the metric thread in the crank snout - to match the metric flywheel/flexplate bolts. Sort of makes sense. I'm going into the shed tomorrow so I will check the 86da block and crank I have in there to see what the thread is.
BigCav 464 Posted May 23, 2014 should of mentioned that the xd xe parts catalogues only list a part number and no thread, but that part number isnt in the ford fastener book so couldnt look it up
