Xh rear brake noise

Recommended Posts

Hi fellas, I've recently put an xh diff in my xf ute and have got a groaning noise coming from what sounds like the rear brakes dragging. The diff came out of a currently used ute so I didn't think the pistons were seized. One of the pistons however was missing its seal when I replaced the pads. Any ideas of what can be causing the noise, handbrake too tight maybe? Or a caliper not releasing properly. It shuts up if I slowly apply the brake or handbrake, it just sounds embarrassing if I slowly pull into a car park and it groans noisily

I had this issue with my XH aswell, but after I added a little LSD additive the issue went away. Maybe worth a shot ?

Handbrakes squeak like buggery when they are a little tight, too tight and you would get the groaning noise, have you check to see if the wheels turn on the jack by hand?

If the handbrake is OK then i'd check the calipers, especially that one with the missing dust boot.

Seems like it's all good lads. I read on another thread that they can make noise if the new pads are not fully bedded in so I gave the brakes a few harsher jabs from higher speed and they seem fine now. Haven't heard any noises for a couple of days now. Thanks for the tips anyway!
