Ando81 2,950 Posted March 7, 2014 Hi fellas, I've recently put an xh diff in my xf ute and have got a groaning noise coming from what sounds like the rear brakes dragging. The diff came out of a currently used ute so I didn't think the pistons were seized. One of the pistons however was missing its seal when I replaced the pads. Any ideas of what can be causing the noise, handbrake too tight maybe? Or a caliper not releasing properly. It shuts up if I slowly apply the brake or handbrake, it just sounds embarrassing if I slowly pull into a car park and it groans noisily

Maybe worth a shot ?
Ando81 2,950 Posted March 7, 2014 Ok mate, it's worth a go. I've got to do an oil change on it soon anyway so I will put a bit in it.
Stevemack 122 Posted March 7, 2014 Handbrakes squeak like buggery when they are a little tight, too tight and you would get the groaning noise, have you check to see if the wheels turn on the jack by hand? If the handbrake is OK then i'd check the calipers, especially that one with the missing dust boot. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted March 9, 2014 I noticed that the old pads I took out were worn more on one side of the pads so maybe the calipers had been rubbing previously. Might be worth putting a caliper kit in both sides. 1 Outback Jack reacted to this
Ando81 2,950 Posted March 11, 2014 Seems like it's all good lads. I read on another thread that they can make noise if the new pads are not fully bedded in so I gave the brakes a few harsher jabs from higher speed and they seem fine now. Haven't heard any noises for a couple of days now. Thanks for the tips anyway!
