Spray Painting for the first timer.

yeah man steel pot is ok just its a bit harder to check how much paint you have left in the pot, with plastic you can see from the outside, 1.4 will still put acrylic on badly for some reason it likes a larger tip even though its really thin

HVLP is fine and infact will use less material and they have better transfer efficiency meaning more is going on the job and less is misting in a cloud around it, hvlp is also better at atomizing the paint and make metallic lay down nicer and eaiser then a conventional rp gun. but wil put solids and clear on a bit more peely.. but that's not really a problem if your going acrylic since youll be fully rubbing and cutting it anyway.

So to explain from eairler

Flash off  just means when the paint is dryed out enough to apply the next coat as in the top is tack but its still wet underneath. as in 5 - 10 mins between coats is the flash off time.

also if you need to know if the 1st coat of 2 pak clear or solid colour has flashed off touch a masked area ,if it is sticky and you pull your finger away and there is no paint stuck to it ,it is good to recoat

I'm more concerned about air consumption with the hlvp. Or will I still be able to do a panel without stopping? 40L compressor, 180 litres a minute. As long as I can paint a bonnet without stopping I'll be happy.

Yeah, I just always have it cranked.

Thanks for the advice.

One last thing, I have a reg fitted with the glass water trap. Is that sufficient for painting or should I be using another type as well?

i run a 50 cfm comp in my shed all i run is one air reg with glass water trap ,just lay your lines out straight and take one of the air fittings and plug it into the line to let any water be blown out before you start to paint ,just incase there condensation in the air line as well
