Cheers men. I have a con note now and an email confirming dispatch. In the end, it's probably just a case of old mate being a bit tardy. He looks after some pretty high end performance stuff and I guess a freak from NQ rates pretty low. That and small business can get a bit frantic at times.
Doesn't help that I'm getting less and less patient as I get older. And that I'm super keen to get this engine going and into the corty. We have an intentional standard drag strip 50 minutes away and I'm busting to go racing. Oh and it's a fast track, despite the altitude. The nitro funny cars ran side by side 5's at the official opening. That was in air well over 3200 ft. Both drivers praised the track despite the poor air.
    Man I'm keen.

So it turns out that if you contact people by Facebook messenger they get back to you quicker than if you ring them. Perhaps it was the tone of the message, none the less he has apparently 're-sent' the throttle bodies express post today as the original shipment is lost in Brisbane.....
Time will tell. It may well be an honest transport issue but I'm less than pleased with the communication surrounding the transaction and he knows that now.
So to end on a positive, Monday night the should be some pretty photos of throttle bodies hanging off THOR.

Apologies to those waiting for photos of the new throttle bodies. After thinking the supplier had done a runner, because they were not answering the phone or responding to emails, it was pointed out to me that there was some open wheeler race in Melbourne last week....

Turns out the supplier is heavily involved in keeping GT cars going and hence was away from the shop. Lucky him. They didn't get sent because he was short of one connector. Apparently he was going to email me, but with all the hype and work got the better of him. Never mind. I should have them just after Easter by the looks.

Yeah. I've got a very small main tank and the surge. might have to look into something like that. Could always just t off the lift pump and put a quick connect on that. Turn on just the lift to drain the tank, job done. Always a way.

Stills need to work out ideal overall inlet length, by horns, make plenum. List goes on and on but I think it's a positive step forward.

Be kinda freaky, all this high tech shit in a little old corty. Oh well. Be fun.

After a big chat with Mick at Northside carbs and weighing up the cost benefit of webers over efi I decided to go efi.
I can tune it without expensive jets
I have the ecu and loom already
I have the swirl pot already
It will have a big crack to it
I might lose some HP up top but I'll get more mid torque
I can sell my webers to recoup the spend
I can confidently hit my intended HP target

    All good things

Some interesting stuff happening on the THOR front. A BIG change in direction. Should have some really interesting stuff to show by mid next week.

Can anyone guess what the change is? Wagoon and Slydog your excluded from the guessing game.

5500 on the old convertor and a lowly 5200 on the new unit thank you very much Q. Well the old unit will foot brake to 4000ish but flashes to 5500. Havn't stalled the new unit yet but it flashes to 5000 atleast on the dyno.

So yes my car go's past peak torque which is prob why it's shows no difference of power on a dyno with a curve or not.Car runs the same numbers on the dyno today but is infact 2/3th's and 2-3mph faster now. Other side is like you said maybe it's going past peak torque and not moving the car well enough so by using the smaller convertor it may bring the 60ft and Et to where it should be?

It makes the same power now matter what dyno it is on and no matter what the set up so adjustable or not doesn't matter a pinch. ET is where the car shows improvements or not. That engine/car just hates dyno's and chasing power on a dyno is pointless but AFR and track tuning shows results.

It's old school is my only explanation of it and prefers a black top dyno LOL.

Rob - Old school suck through mate. Eaton m90 blower is what I'm using. Carb gets mounted to a new cast alloy mount that mates to the original tb attachment point. They do a Weiand 144 blower as well but the carb mounts on top, like a traditional 6/71 or 8/71 blower.

Ryan - I actually stood on my mounts to get them to bend down a fraction. I'm over 100 kegs so I'm thinking that a full radiator, spread over 2 mounts will not cause an issue.

Mntl - me too. It's been a long time coming and I'm actually looking forward to it firing and then documenting, for you all, the result of the various upgrades I have planned.

Rear head board modification almost sorted. Decided to use the original material even tho it had some big dents from stuff moving around in its tray. Like most Utes, the tub has had a hard life. This will give me a heap more room.

Also got the radiator moved forward and down to allow room for the blower pulley and belt. I moved the lower brackets forward by re-drilling the holes and slots. Then I levered them down. This allowed the top of the radiator to tuck below the fold on the radiator support. Couple of bolts through some existing holes into the top flange of the radiator with rubber washers to dampen. I'm going to make a custom alloy shroud and mount some after market thermos to it. Tried the Ef style thermos and just could get them close enough to allow room for the blower belt.

The big yellow ruler in the photo is 50mm wide and the pulley and belt is only 32mm so plenty.

And in the hole. Very happy to see the MSC finally in it's home. Craig gave the wiring a bit of a tidy and from that perspective she is ready to fire. Not going to happen for awhile yet as I decided to move the cab rear wall back while I'm going. The extra room will come in handy. Once that's done and welded in I can reinstall the fuel tank and dash and we will see what happens.

    Getting closer by the day.

Cheers men. A fitting home for the MSC.

Jack it's Monza red. Well it's supposed to be. Looks to have a bit more orange in it to me but hard to sat as the original paint is crap.

They actually changed the formula over the years apparently. Mine was done to 1988 spec as that's the year model of the ute.

Hope to have the engine and box in by the end of the week. Just gotta knock over a couple more paying jobs first.

Yeah this one splashed onto the firewall so I'd nearly say it happened whilst moving? The bonnet is also a bit not so good but I grabbed an xg one the other day which I will use.
Got the bare steel into epotec today so I will finger bog and blend the terrible welds around the battery tray area tomorrow. Then another layer of epotec after a sand to the entire area and she should be good.
Undercoat and rub on Monday and possibly colour Monday if I get really fired up. Really keen to knock this ove and get the MSC and all the other stuff bolted in the bay to start making it look like s car again

Small update. This is the bay where the MSC will reside. Looks like it has had a battery explode or something in the past. Pretty ugly repair as well.

Hooked in with the grinder, wire wheel and a bit of chemical assistance and got it almost sorted. There was a fair amount of deep rust damage from the battery acid.

I'll finish cleaning it up, sand the edges and get some epotec on there tomorrow. Should be colouring this in on Monday/Tuesday next week. Can't wait to be honest. Then the MSC can go in and I can start refitting everything.

It is together - patiently waiting for the Aussiespeed blower kits to be finished.  I will take a photo of it all dressed up with carb and the 2 barrel manifold later in the week.

Unfortunately work has been stupid busy and I have been helping others reach their crossflow dreams and not doing enough of my own stuff.  The shop ute it is going into has also been getting a lot of love.  Got all the dash out of it to fit a new evap.  Need to clean up the engine bay and repaint it as the previous owner had a battery explode in there and I know you mob will be all over me if I put the engine in a dirty old bay.

The plan is to run it in aspo, 2 barrel form first to get a number on the dyno.  I will try the 350 and 500 carb as originally planned.  If time permits I will do a four barrel run as well.  Once that is sorted The Aussiespeed blower kit will be bolted on with the 600DP and we will see what torque improvement we can achieve.

So short answer - Yep the Mad Scientist Crossflow is still happening, I just need 2 of me to get alll this work out the door so that I can get onto my own stuff.

Oh and yes - they are ARP head studs and rocker cover studs - They were just lying around so I had to use them. Didn't feel like buying a set of head bolts when I had these.

Cylinder head all done and cc'd. I now have 9.5:1 compression. Its is right up there for boost but there is a bit of overlap in the camshaft so it will be fine with low (7psi) boost and a good tune.

Bit of bling - yella terra platinum non-adjustables. All set up for nice preload on the lifters.

And fitted up with the Aussiespeed 2 barrel manifold - WHY - well there is a bit more R&D to do on the blower kits to ensure their reliability. I am cool with that as there is more than what meets the eyes when you start to develop a commercial product. It has to work and work well - bit different if you are just doing it for yourself.

Good news is that this puts us back to plan A. The MSC will go through various 2 barrel carb combinations and then four barrel with the results documented in the thread. Really keen to hear this thing live.

Halfway there on the new open chamber head. Of course once again using left over parts - This time some ISKY 235ds that served on the race car for 4 seasons. They lost a bit of seat pressure (5 lb) in that time but they are perfect for this little .540" lift hydraulic cam. Plenty of nose pressure to help with boost.

I don't have the privilege of E85 anywhere near me either. Was more just wondering as I know standard they are around 7psi and with a simple pulley change it's 10psi odd, which is still not a great deal. The idea behind intake temps was if the car is used as a tow vehicle it would essentially be under load constantly when towing and in queensland and more so north queensland a bit of extra cooling would go a long way.
Guess I'm just thinking a head as I know my wagon will fall to pieces in under 5 years (christ I hope it makes it that long at the rate it's going) and am looking at something that can easily tow, but since I have 5 crossflows in various conditions it makes sense to continue down that path if possible.
Plus I would love to be rocking a blown crossflow towing a roller cammed crossflow racecar, yes I know it's a sickness and a have come down bad with it See what you bastards have got me into

Yeah mate - I think it will work out that way.  Time will tell.  Speaking with Mark this am as most of the kit is already to go.  I'll probably grab the stuff that is ready to go, just so I can mock it all up.
