AU Falcon ignition assembly

Hey team

 

I have just replaced the entire AU Falcon ignition assembly on a 1999 XR6 Falcon 

due to the old one being damaged with a big screwdriver and hammer by a previous owner. 

Anyway...

I guess i now have to re-program the 2nd hand/new assembly and transponder to the rest

of the car so it will start. 

 

Is this a simple operation??

 

I did one in a EF Falcon years ago and if my memory is working, the Max Ellery repair manual said...

 

I had to leave the ignition on for half hour and press the rear demister button 3 times?? and then

the car's ECU went through the motions of relearning the ignition so it would start. 

I think this is what i did, was many years ago. 

 

So is this the same for AU Falcon or is it more complex??

Im not a member of any other car forums and finding info on this subject is rather difficult 

So help here on this topic would be super awesome.

I guess its Smartlock??

Ill check tomorrow if i can swap the lock sensor but the original lock barrel 

is ka-put. Somebody smashed a big phillips head screw driver down the ignition 

barrel and it can't be turned now to remove just the barrel.

I was hoping to just remove and replace just the barrel but i can't remove it from 

the rest of the ignition body hence why i just swapped the entire unit over. 

 

Are you thinking "if i can remove the original damaged barrel and i remove

the barrel from the new lock and swap it over" it might start up??

After programming two new keys, or re-keying the replacement lock barrel... yes.

From memory, AU's need two keys for programming.

It won't accept just one key.

I had a locksmith say something similar last week about "needing 2 keys for reprogramming"

I just thought he was daft 🤣

Well, ill get in touch with him again and ill get this old broken barrel out and go from there.

Will be a after xmas thing now i reckon but that's ok.

Smartshield started in late 1999, although ford forums will tell you it was 2000, I have a 99 au with Smartshield that is currently immobilised thanks to one of my mates that was "looking after it for me"(3 failed starts can trigger immobilisation on a Smartshield car) some lock smiths or mobile auto elecs can do a whats a callet a pats (the name of the security system) reset, you will need two keys, if you want to have a go at it yourself and obd2 scanner and a program called forscan can let you do it, there is a forscan forum that walks you through the process, I haven't tried it because I wasn't going to get a second key cut for a $200 parts car
