C4 to AU V8...what bolts?

Hi All

Im trying to bolt up a C4 behind an AU windsor to go i to an old pickup. I was told by a mechanic they should be 7/16 UNC high tensile bolts which I bought. Problem is the only grab a couple of threads and get really tight. I dont want to force them until I know for sure I have the correct size/thread. Can anyone enlighten me?

Should be the 7/16 UNC , all windsors are  same
