XFtoXE 14 Posted October 28, 2016 Hey Guys I had a small fire in the engine bay that must have melted the bonnet cable and can't pop the bonnet. Is there another easy way to open the bonnet. Any help appreciated
SLO247 1,713 Posted October 28, 2016 What model is it? If you can get under the bonnet latch there's a lever hanging out under the radiator support. Need to move that over and it will pop. May need to break the grill though and I can't remember if the condenser or trans cooler etc get in the way.
deankxf 20,327 Posted October 29, 2016 as above. can get to it from under the bumper without breaking the grille if you jack the car up.. that fire looks like where one of mine started.. caused by wiring loom rubbing on metal and a dead short(100kmh freeway in heavy rain) can see the tip of this lever from below, lever it across and it should openhttp://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/UvcAAOSwDk5Tuiu9/s-l500.jpg worst case, you might be able to undo the mounting bolts for the latch
XFtoXE 14 Posted October 29, 2016 Thank you for your help. After jacking up the front managed to get a coat hanger into the hole in the latch and pop, up goes the bonnet. Help most appreciated Now the hard part of rewiring. cheers
deankxf 20,327 Posted October 29, 2016 see if you can just buy an engine bay loom, i did that and just unplugged it under the dash near the bonnet catch, fitted a new bonnet cable like you will need to do and plugged the rest up.. the 6cyl wiring will have everything needed in it ..why did the fire start, and did it get into the cabin
XFtoXE 14 Posted October 30, 2016 Not sure how the fire started most likely electrical as per your post. No fire in the cabin but a lot of plastic has melt under dash. I consider myself lucky as I pulled up next to a auto shop and they came out with a extinguisher and a fire station just around the corner were there in 15 minutes. If 6 cylinder loom is the same that would be good. 1 deankxf reacted to this

Cost me under $50 so it was a good day. 1 deankxf reacted to this
