Bluedog 2 Posted July 18, 2016 I went to change my spark plugs on my xg 4.0L ute on the weekend but discovered they are very tight only managed to get one out. Any ideas how to get them out without to much drama... Thanks sparky dave that worked i got the old plugs out.
SPArKy_Dave 8,942 Posted July 18, 2016 Run the engine, then remove them while the head is still hot. The temperature expansion should help you. Log manifold OHC's need the long electrode spark plugs, to run at their best. 1 Bluedog reacted to this
Outback Jack 6,352 Posted July 19, 2016 Hey Dave I run those new bosch 4 tip plugs... they seem pretty good as well. Whats the advantage of having the longer electrode? Sorry for the hi-jack...... SPArKy_Dave 8,942 Posted July 19, 2016 Hey Dave I run those new bosch 4 tip plugs... they seem pretty good as well. Whats the advantage of having the longer electrode? Puts the spark a bit further into the combustion chamber, is about all I can tell. Probably helps to obtain a more complete combustion. Ford also spec those plugs for the later OHC engines - with the broadband manifold, when they're running LPG. 2 gerg and Outback Jack reacted to this
gerg 10,871 Posted July 19, 2016 Projected tip was always recommended on anything LPG due to its slower combustion time. Didn't know about log engines though, are they a bit on the rich side? Is why I chose the 4 tip bosch plugs, Present a more open spark to the combustion chamber. I'll have to have a measure of the lengths for comparison. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk They do have a low compression at 8.5:1 on standard 4.0L, maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe someone with an xr6 XG with higher comp engine might see if same plug is recomnended as standard one.
