Free.51 2,748 Posted November 11, 2015 This might sound silly but what is the purpose of a sandwich plate?, is it like a gasket or to prevent dust getting in to the engine/trans.
Stu5766 394 Posted November 11, 2015 As far as I know, it's just to keep contaminants out of the bellhousing. Back in the 79' repco trail, one of the works cortinas was in a good position until the clutch started slipping. When Colin bond crawled under to have a look, there was no sandwich plate & it had filled the bellhousing with sand, mud, etc. He says to Murray carter, " where's the sandwich plate, the clutch is full of sand ". Murray carter replys " I never fit those to my race cars "!! It was never an issue, cause Murray was a circuit racer, not a rally driver. 1 Free.51 reacted to this
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted November 11, 2015 I agree with Stu, the inspection plate is just there to keep the bellhousing clean from outside contaminants. 1 Free.51 reacted to this
