steve mcqueen 1,796 Posted March 16, 2015 This is a great idea this thread. I have that car tracker on my watch list just have to buy it. Was looking for 'real info' on such items tho. Now im not tech savvy so,,,, does that tracker have any on going cost's? Do i need to have a smart phone to use it? etc etc. All info on vehicle trackers would be good so if you have one let us all know why its a good thing so we can perhaps buy one to. Also..... Vehicle camera's,,,, Id like to install a camera in Project goldie so i can record whats going on around me in the event of a crash and as there are heaps on the market,,,, what is one of the best one's? Does it record night time driving? Does it have 2 camera's one for front and the back? Again, id like to know more info.
Xelisty 366 Posted March 16, 2015 Feedback on this one. I used to have a ebay shop so do know about it. It took too much time and and started working out of town so impossible to post daily so stopped. I had trackers, gps, security, car cameras etc. http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/251617852291?nav=SEARCH SMS tracking old or new phone so it SMS codes for specific Reasons it set off. Just take a small card in your walker what the codes mean. You learn them anyway PC tracking using online software. smartphone online tracking using the above platform. Cost $20 per year Easy install with external gps antenna for good reception Can go the whole hog and connect up doors, lights so this will take some time Not bad to set up all via SMS. You need a SIM card so will have a small fees for a super basic sim or prepaid. You sort that out yourself I will get some details for in car cameras soon. Janus are a good brand with 2 cameras in one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 steve mcqueen reacted to this
tpak addict 1,909 Posted March 16, 2015 want a cheap car tracker.... Got a spare android phone handy??? even better with GPS enabled Get life360 on the android phone and hard wire it into the car with a prepaid sim behind the dash Pair it with your phone that you normally use..... That way you can track the phone to around 70 metres (and the car) radius...... 1 Gav reacted to this

Gav 616 Posted March 16, 2015 A word about devices that use the mobile phone network to track your stuff. There have been two recent occasions when I investigated these items. Firstly, "GPS car trackers" that SMS the physical location of your vehicle when I was considering parking a car or two in storage. Secondly a "trail camera" that sends, night or day, footage of the pricks nicking your stuff to your phone as they are doing it when I caught a nuffy red-handed in my back yard. Of note, while I was doing some digging, is that Telstra is switching off the 2G network in 2016. Optus's 2G network already has very marginal coverage. A lot of these devices are only enabled for the old 2G/GSM network and will be of little use in the near future. So consider whatever you buy, buy carefully. Some vendors...especially the Ebay ones mistake the fact that because the 3G network uses similar frequencies to the the 2G network (850MHz, 900MHz etc) that 2G devices are compatible with the updated network. My understanding is that they are not....different protocols are used and therefore the 2G devices will cease to function as intended in time. The major carriers are "refarming" the frequencies used on the 2G network elsewhere... So do your research before laying out the readies! 5 Nath, steve mcqueen, Trev Vaa and 2 others reacted to this
Xelisty 366 Posted March 17, 2015 Correct, there are a number of new models and about $100 extra for 3G Something is better than nothing so do what suits. No matter what you do they're is away around it. Just minimise rick, deterants, signs to say there is CCTV, etc. A very budget system is buy a few ir illuminators..
