Yeah mate all the same 3" with aerochamber So basically the crossflow long block has been replaced with the fg DOHC long block, the ecu has been changed and the bellhousing is different that is all.

Got it all in the car and running, alot of time spent on the laptop getting all the systems setup. LOL now the engine idles do low may alternator needs a smaller pulley because i don't have any voltage at 800rpm!!!!!

Lol I don't even have a handbrake anymore it used to drag and slow me down might have to go find all the parts again!!!!

Original goal was to replace the crossflow with another engine of similar power, goal archived in my book. If I had a dollar for very time I was told that one of the many different things I was doing wouldn't work it would have made over 400hp!!!! I think it will go just fine and do exactly what I want it to do. The series I currently run in has a et cutoff of 11.50 soooo maybe in trouble there time will tell!!

Might change the way it gets off the line ?!?!

They're all different pro, anyone can drive a dyno what you need to find and what is worth paying for is the guy tuning the engine, so when you find a good one pay what they ask!!

The torque from 3000 to 4000 is way different to the old motor. As for the weight I'm not sure on that one I would say the DOHC would be heavier but not by much all the weight difference would be in the head if say. The short block may be lighter so if would be close. I plan to weigh the car when I can at the drags and compare it to what I had before.

Xflow - 345hp @ 6100 333ftlb @ 4700 FG - 355hp @ 6050 342ftlb @ 4500 same dyno, same fuel brand, same manifold, same exhaust, same tuner, 3 years apart!! So thats a stock FG DOHC head port, chamber, valve angles etc which is different to BA DOHC also we love vct saw one simple change at 5000 to the exhaust cam and gained 20hp!!! the cams have 60 degrees of movement and we are using all of that through the rev range. Should be back out racing in the next few weeks if all goes well.

Nah Rob I didn't even want/budget to pull the head off now the thing is completely apart. If I do pistons they would be full custom then I may as well to rods then crank blah blah blah the bottom end is them same as the old xflow and it made 340hp so for now this will do. But who knows what the future will hold!!

After Tips On Preventing Belts Turning / Flying Off

No ati specificly state not to. They are rebuildable and that one of Ryan's I serviced, so every time you rebuild it you will have to rebalance it?? Yes?? And they way you balance your engines as a whole, won't it chage the overall balance????

After Tips On Preventing Belts Turning / Flying Off

This is what i used to have it worked But what a mess changed to this and what a difference. ATI 917788 The belt brand is a big deal with the romac but after the ati went on I could use anything. The balancers that have the belt groove on the body is the problem the harmonics go right into the belt and off she goes. IMO if you are planing to spin to 7000 you must have a decent motor going on there so why skimp on a balancer the ati unit is around $400 from the us last time i saw the romac wasn't to far behind that.

Man been a while on this nothing goes to plan and nothing is done in a hurry either!! Piston to valve done, the piston was not really thick enough to get to the vct position that we really wanted but we will still have a fair amount to play with as is now. hopefully going back together soon!!

    converting a barra to carb

come on mate its just a newer taxi engine...LOL I'm pretty confident the bar will be raised!! Only 11.58 to beat, 11.04 and beyond is and always has been in another league then me, maybe you could give it a go, I just want to race!! Something like that mate!!

    converting a barra to carb

haha not quite, they are harder but 240cfm stock at .500 you dont need to go any bigger...LOL tunnel vision thinking I love it, this is my new signature

    converting a barra to carb

You would have to mount another trigger wheel on the engine the barras are inside the engine and are combined with the crank timing chain sprocket. Its all about the missing tooth and sensor placement. The missing tooth tells the computer that the camshaft sync tooth is coming up in a curtain amount of degrees and when it sees that it starts the firing process. So what you need need to find out is if you can tell the computer where the sensors are relative to tdc or weather you have a fixed mount for the sensors relative to tdc. On my old motec i could tell the computer, after the missing tooth the sync tooth was 260deg for eg after and it would be waiting for that signal.

    converting a barra to carb

Barra engine with a 4 barrel = Major backwards move. You would be wasting the potential of the engine. The ignition is the biggest issue, no one makes a pnp ignition system for 6 cylinder and then it has to be sensor and engine specific. They have a 36-1 crank wheel already and the sync is on the back of the camshaft, problem is there is normally only one tooth but on these engines there are 4 and different distances apart. They only way I could see it being done is like ando said with a magnetic trigger on the balancer ala MSD and then you would have to make a distributor to drive off the intake camshaft!! it could be done Ive seen a similar setup on a 4.6/5.4 ford mod motor before but its a lot of work just run the efi a vipec or motec will run the engine including vct or lock the cams and run any computer you want would be a lot easier i think.

    OTD 250 Kenny's Corty!

Ken doesn't need a diff change, he has only just got on top of the tune up and has just fitted a data logger so once he starts fine tuning the 10 will come!!

It's all god mate I'm learning as I go as well from what I can gather they are all the same motor, the turbo has a dish piston and 8.8:1 comp, the n/a which I have has a dome piston with 10.3:1 comp and the gas must have a bigger dome and 12.0:1 comp. the tuboo piston has the cuts in the exhaust only as well. I'm hoping there is enough piston to cut the intake side as well will the hopefully getting this sorted this week.
