pull up on the door lock button or key at same time? if that works, there's a spring broken in the door mech

    auto from el into xg

give a transmission mob a phone call to confirm, but i was Told to get any from EA to EL for My brothers EB(similar spec to the XG) the only catch is the EF and EL etc don't have a dipstick which if it doesn't leak is fine.. but if it leaks and you can't check it they fuck up from low oil. dipstick can't be added as far as i know. but if options are limited, you could get it.. fit it, then send yours off for reco etc later(or find one with a dipstick in good nick)

    Random Barra questions

They are but it depends what you're putting it in whether that's and advantage or disadvantage i wish i used a T5 from AU on My lexus V8 into falcon, i reckon it would have been a bolt in with stock mount, speedo, tailshaft and gearstick in the right spot(engine had a decent firewall gap due to where the sump allowed the engine to fit). supra box was probably more expensive itself also

    WINDSOR SMALLBLOCK TALK

@XTREME KARTS XF would know all about that engine i suspect. he followed the sprint cars a fair bit last year or before

    Ed head swap

if you mean just to replace a worn head, i believe it would be a direct swap from EA to EF head(some ELs had an AU style head) speak to a cylinder head mob with one phone call to see if there's a preferred head to find and double check before doing it(having it surfaced will help prevent head gasket issues, and fitting an AU headgasket is often an upgrade if suitable(surfaces need to be very good) to fit the MPi injection stuff, it all bolts on if you are handy messing with that kind of thing.

    WINDSOR SMALLBLOCK TALK

what's the intention for this engine? slap it back together with new rings and bearings or hot it up and fit to XF ute?

    302 Windsor running hot

is 200 HOT? seems acceptable depending on how it goes in summer. someone else will probably know, but it's below boiling without a cap is all i know

    XF rear disc calipers

good to hear you have tried, the calipers will also be on 1987 XFs also i am fairly sure all 1987 got rear discs(well, every car i got/wrecked had them..) (i don't have any parts anymore)

    XF rear disc calipers

i think you'd get an XE /XF , ZK ZL fairlane, FD/FE LTD caliper if looking harder.. i think if you found an EA diff, the brakes and axels would bolt on(25 spline) but if you wanted brakes off EB to fit you may need to change wheel bearings for backing plate swap? i think if i was giving up on XF brakes, i'd just fit an E series diff (EA to ED diff) bit of mucking around, if interested we can explain it but have a search in the forums first for a how to

i remember @Thom cleaning up the valley on a clevo, maybe it's in his thread even?

    Holley Sniper EFI

don't let BGDAV see it, he's already lost weight on the "car parts diet" (where you prioritise car parts over food)
  17. might have been 28 spline possibly then, i don't think the 2.77 were ever 28 spline?
  18. 2.92 is stronger i think(than 2.77). might be one of the reasons
  19. can't just say crossflow can't rev.. because there's a few that are pulling big revs with some decent upgrades

    T5 and SOHC into XF

if you kept the original diff and fitted a T5 the tailshaft is fine if you had a BW40 auto or single rail. (or C4 even) if you change to the Eseries diff with the round flat yoke, you can actually swap to the crappy XF yoke (it will swap over if you know what you are doing...) but, the Eseries one is considered better(even though My 351 V8 used the XF type setup for years fine. ) the E series type is 4 bolts, do them up super tight and check them after a week, i'm sure they were loctite or thread locker paste originally. you will also need the correct speedo gear on the sender for whatever diff ratio you choose..

    T5 and SOHC into XF

if it's original 5 speed XE, it's not a T5(its a sigma style box that only came on a 3.3.. reverse next to 1st to check) XF unleaded got the first T5, i think it might even be only from 1987? but a T5 from an XF is a bolt in for XE, they have the same cross member, so if it is a T5(reverse next to 4th) then yep, bolt in. no mods

    Alloy issues

i'd get different wheels. but i know Tassie isn't as easy as the mainland for getting things for anything old. if you fitted spacers, would the wheel(tyre) to guard get any contact?

    Exhaust bypas

probably be ok ,would you just bypass the resonator and plumb it back in to the system, that may be a better way.. BGDAV runs a pair of Varex mufflers. the note isn't as tough or loud as the Super44s that were on it(pure bliss) but they still sound good ,and at the flick of a button.. quiet enough that the engine noise is louder.. http://www.xforce.com.au/products/varex-mufflers
  24. also don't rule out the 2.92 depending on the combo also.. i've seen some turbo 250s running the 2.92 and they pull like a train with a smaller turbo making boost early
  25. i would say depends on the cam. and rev limit. and when the boost comes on.. i'd try 3.23 because they are common and cheap.. get one, bolt it in.. try it. if it's too slow to get the 3.45
