    Difference in spring height

Not sure on the height, but we didn't have an XR6 in the XF ute range. All the XR's had modified suspension, usually heavier and lower. If you go to a spring manufacturer, tell them you want it raised 30, 45, mm or whatever, and they will do it to that.

    High Idle - EFI xflow

Not heaps annoying, but it just isn't right, and thats what bugs me. Maybe I'm OCD or something. Or is it CDO? (in alphabetical order, the way it should be) Shift into drive then reverse or it bangs like a dunny door in a gale, and chirps the wheels in my gravel driveway

    High Idle - EFI xflow

BUMP. So, does anyone know if the ISC are unavailable, still? Anyone pulled one apart, and can show me the internals? My ZL is idling a little high in neutral (900-1,000 rpm) but, fine in Drive. (500-600 rpm) Checked timing (with Spout disconnected), tweaked the base idle on the throttle body, with ISC disconnected. just seems to be a big range between N and D. 1985 Leaded, 250 EFI, 128,000k (all stock)

    XR6 head scored

Everything is repairable, depends on the cost. The cam is made of harder material, so it wont be damaged like the bearing (head). Never seen it done, but you could machine the head and cap and install an old fashioned cam bearing shell in there. Might be cheaper to get another head. The machining alone would be hours........... Sorry, doesn't help you much.

    XE snowflakes

Thanks, never seen that. Photobucket can be mischievious. If you rearrange your photos in different folders, your old links wont work.

    NF/EF rear bumper removal procedure?

Thanks, Stevemack, saved me hours looking for those hidden bolts. 4 x 14mm socket in the boot, 2 x 10mm socket under the guards, and had to remove the mudflaps. Drilled out the rivets that hold it to the wheel well, and off she came. Jobs done. Slipped down to U-pull-it, (pick-a-part) and holy crap.!!! a dark blue Fairlane, with rear bumper still attatched. Gotta get lucky sometimes.......... Just to got to clean and polish the old thing, then she'll be on the market.
  13. Hi guys, gotta replace the rear bumper on the NF before I sell it, 'cos it looks shit.! Anyone pulled one off, before? Bolts under wheel arch, some in the boot??
  14. Cool stuff. Hate it when you chase your tail, for what seems so simple in the end. Always likes NGK plugs, good for LPG, too.

PCV Valve? do i really need it?

Stick a baby air pod in there from a motorbike shop.??

    Rough idle

Squirt a little Aerostart at the base of the carby, inlet manifold, etc....if the engine revs up, it's probably a leaky gasket. Not too much, and not on the ignition system...........

    detailing

Borrowed an orbital polisher from the old man, with a flat and a waffle pad. Got some Meguiers Ultimate compound in the shed, that any good?
  18. Just wondering if there are any replacement motors for the X series window winders.?? Has anyone tried EF maybe BA or equivalent? Mine are OK, in the ZL, but a couple are a bit slow. Tried lube, graphite powder, beeswax, but still seems the motors are dragging their arse a bit. Can they be rewound? Maybe just swapping the rear to the front might help, as they have done less work over the years. Cheers Bear.

    Starter motor?

Never found an easier way, but if ya do......let me know. Mine hasn't given me anymore trouble than not starting properly, but it's kinda like having an extra kill switch......bah ha ha ha ha

    Starter motor?

They're a bit fiddly to get out, and there is a multipin plug top and bottom. Wreckers may have one (right colour) but ya wont know if it's any good.

    Starter motor?

My NF has been doing it for years, as Dan said, hold the key in crank position and smack the dash in front of your left knee. My BEM is green, changed it out, a year later that started playing up............being tapping the dash for 2 years, now...

    Louvres and venetians

Reckon the Aunger would stop more heat getting in the car. Venetians are really there to protect the passengers from sunburn. Unforunately, the heat is already through the glass at that stage. I'd tint the window to stop the heat, and go with the venetian, 'cos they look retro cool.

XD XE XF power window motors.

This is on my ZL, so all the switches are on the drivers armrest. Nothing on the console. Prefer them on the console, My FC LTD had them there, so does my NF, keep reaching for them and sticking my fingers in the ashtray.......

    detailing

Bump. So, I finally got around to washing the ZL. I know, I know,........3 weeks .......yadda, yadda,.....been busy !! As I'm wringing out the chamois, the white paint that used to be on the roof, is now running down the street like cow's milk. PO said he wasn't really a car guy, so I'm guessing he never waxed it. My question is....what would be the best method to stop the paint oxidising and seal it?? Cutting compound?? Carnuba Wax?? Hand rub or polisher?? (keep it clean )
