    200 rods into 250?

A local engine builder is currently putting together a 250 xflow build for a guy i know and he is running an EF crank and BF turbo 6.05" rods, i question the owner about what slugs and deck height it will end up at and he hasnt a clue but said he trusted the builder to put it together, mind you he has got 35 years of tuff speedway xflow engines under his hat so id believe that he has something worked out.

    200 rods into 250?

Ford followed this same principle with the evolution of the OHC 6, the Pre-xflow, 250 xflow and all earlier 4.0L OHC engines shared the same 5.88" rods, same big end bearing and gudgeon pin. But with the AU intech engine(and the hybrid EL series II built side by side) and all versions of the inline 6 since then they adopted a 6.05" rod and shorter skirt piston, this accompanied with a very shallow piston dish and larger head chamber and thin MLS head gasket puts a lot more energy above the piston mass and thus aids stable combustion over the face of the piston and decreases side wall friction, pushing the lot downwards as fast as it can meaning more torque.

    What are these?

They are called Convo ETs by Centreline. http://centerlinewheels.com/wheels_detail.php?mw_id=34&sw_id=365

    cooling system

And in case you didnt already know make sure the spring on the thermostat is on the head side of the thermostat housing and not the hose side. This spring needs to be in contact with the coolant inside the head in order to react to it and open the thermostat as it heats up. If its put in backwards it will have a huge delay in opening temps.

Will a XE K frame fit into an XG??

I thought his question was K frame, thats the under rad support in any car... Thats why i mentioned that they are the same suspension wise but not sure about rad fitment. Sheesh.. i might just forget about the whole thing next time round, might be easier.

Will a XE K frame fit into an XG??

Thats all true glenn, but he has an XG panelvan and his question was if they are the same as XE... which they are not. The fornt end is eesentially identical in respects to XDEF as you have described but the lower rad support panel that captivates the radius rod bushes is not. The bushing mounts are in the same location but so it would adapt his suspension perfectly but i cant say yes or no on whats above that, namely the radiator mounts and bottom hose.

Will a XE K frame fit into an XG??

XG is a shell all on its own, XD,E and F have very similar front ends as each other, just firewall changed. But XG has a completely different front subframe to the rest. Not to say that any competent fabricator couldnt fit an XE subframe into an XG, the rest is relatively the same but i cant say that the radiator will fit straight back in or not, it may do no probs.

    Tips using regular household products

I can attest to rust removal using electrolysis, i do it all the time and the results are fantastic for such little effort involved. http://www.ozfalcon.com.au/index.php?/topic/1743-rust-converting-the-diy-way/

    Tremec T5 question

Ill get some exact measurements today guys as its been a little while so ive forgotten what it is. Its less then needed for a sedan shaft but cause i asked myself that question back then and thought no. But thinking about it again now maybe with a 20mm thick hub spacer or similar on the yoke flange it might just come up trumps? No real progress on anything to report guys sorry, i was busy last year with photography then had a well earned holiday and now its slack as hahaha. it was expected but i kind of hand my hopes up that it wouldnt be this bad. So i kind of am broke and in need of a second job really to start getting back into playing car. I was just talking about this yesterday with someone so it was fresh and thought id ask it here

    Tremec T5 question

Ok i have a curly one that im hoping someone can help with, ive got a Tremec 5 speed from an AUIII XR6 and i aim to fit it behind an AU motor in an XG ute. The 4.0L is almost the same dimensionally as the 250xflow with the sandwich plate in the same location, the 4spd auto in an XG is the same length totally and to the xmember mounting points as the XF T5 box and the Diff is in the same place from XF to XG... so they share the same tailshaft length if you get where im going here. So now we go to the AU T5... its around 45mm longer from sandwich plate to output shaft seal than the XF T5 meaning that i will need to shorten my current tailshaft to fit this box in place of whats in there now. So the only way i can see this working is if the manual AUs had a shorter tailshaft than the autos did, and if the wheel base is the same as XF then i will need a manual shaft to fit all this into my XG? Does anyone have an AU XR6 utility or wagon on hand that can measure the wheel base and the tailshaft length for me please? I dont want to shell out coin to shorten my tailshaft when i could pick one up from a wreck somewhere if its at all possible. Cheers.

    Tremec T5 question

Or to be more precise.. the total length from sandwich plate to the yoke flange on the diff thanks, so i know whether or not im going down the right track firstly. Cheers.

    Clutch cable drama's......again

yep theres a support bracket on the bell housing to stop them kinking over or they will bend side to side when you pull on them which stuffs the end on it.

    injectors

All falcon 6cyl injectors are the same physical shape, size and fitment. If they fit one they will fit the rest.

Triple valve springs with stock lifters

You could always pop the centres out of them to drop the spring rate if your worried, wont have to change a thing then.
  15. Your PM box is full lol...

So judging by your pics, your shock and spring package is irrelevant becasue your not using them anyways?

are AU and BA 5 speeds the same?

Ahh thats why its so short. I think the shifter box is set back from the end of the housing about 30mm in the BW T5s where as the Tremecs are flush with the end as in your pic.

are AU and BA 5 speeds the same?

Is that a comparison shot of the BW T5OD and the Tremec T5OZ? Its a fair bit longer hey, and that transducer boss is on the opposite side looking at that pic.

are AU and BA 5 speeds the same?

True that thom forgot about that one. Apparently you van drill out the hole and fit the drive gear on the output shaft still. The boss is still there to do it.

are AU and BA 5 speeds the same?

All should be adaptable to what you got now with the right bell and clutch setup The BF turbs have a pretty trick lightened flywheel setup aswell if your in the mood for it.
  21. n00bus m@x1mus

are AU and BA 5 speeds the same?

Nope AUs have the T5OD just with a slightly longer rear housing putting the shifter box back about an inch or so, apart from that they are the same as earlier Eseries T5s. The BA non turbo boxes i believe are the same as AUs, couldbe wrong but. The BA turbos and onwards are teh T5OZ which have a stronger input shaft and require a turbo clutch as the input shaft has more splines. There is a ratio difference too i think i heard once.

    hydrocoating water paint

Its been around for a long time, its only just got into the main stream and then made cool by applications such as in the video. Its supposed to take away the time factor and pain of airbrushing by simply designing it on a computer and printing it out like any signwriter would. But like cobrajet said its only a base coat, it still needs the usual sealing process done like any other cob setup (or airbrushing for that matter) Its cool, i saw a bike being down for some richie rich dude in the states that wanted everything to be covered in Benjamins... just simply could not have done it any other way.

    RRS Manual Steering Rack

Ive got both an EF and an AU rack here and was contemplating the conversion and heard the same gerg, so whats the story? Who knows what? I know Gareth has done all this homework and fitted an AU rack shortened probably for these reasons but hes fallen off the face of the planet so i cant get a hold of him to confirm or deny.
