Hi all! Anyone got any info/videos of the prep of an engine bay and what to use to sand down corrosion and paint peeling? Also ways to fill a few unused holes! I’ve heard wet and dry. Bloody didn’t get much done today because of the rain. Hopefully over this weekend can come up with abit of content for you guys bit by bit it’s gwtting stripped down!

Got the brake booster and master cylinder removed today from the bay! Gheez then 3x 14mm bolts where a pain to get to! Cleaning up the grime I the engine bay as it looks to have had a rough touch up job and the paint is falking off and going purple aswell what’s the best way to address this? Don’t mind doing abit of the prep to make it easier for the painter. Wet and dry sandpaper? What grit? I’ll be leaving the brake lines still in bay just taping them up. What’s the best way if I was to upload photos/videos so I can attach for you guys? Cheers

Guys another off top question, not sure if I should keep in this post. I should have named it XF Papou Build okay I’m in the progress of stripping down the car. It’s going in for a “ open door respray “ engine bay door jams and outside of car. I have removed front rear bumper. Engine and gearbox is out. Ac lines+Power steering lines. But there is still a mess of wiring in the bay.basically all hanging down in the middle. Door cards are off. Do I need to remove glass or can I keep it in? I’m removing the booster tomorrow out of the bay. Easier for the front and rear bumpers to be on or off the car? I’m doing a much as I possibly can myself. I have all storage containers and ziplock bags labelled with all parts removed in there keepimg it as organised as possible. Any tips would be appreciated! Cheers

Today was a productive day! Stripped more of the engine bay out, airconditioning,power steering and cleaned as much of the wiring up. Nearly ready for paint and as soon as it goes there the fun begins on the motor as I’ll have the space in my single garage to lay everything on a clean work bench... you gotta day the xfs are like 4wd without the engines in them hopefully by next week I’ll have the list of parts I need for the rebuild and off I go to order them in one hit!

Can’t seem to get photos to upload on the pc, I’ll give crow a call on Monday morning and they should surely know what gear I’ll need to go with what cam ect, just want the lumpyiest cam I can go without ecu failure. How does your sound?

Ahaha if you saw photos of my ghia mate. Monza red ghia,Louvours,visor,headlight protectors,bonnet protector,door stoppers,fluffy seat covers absolute papou spec car so what cam are you running all wit crow gear?

Also once you just did your cams did you replace your springs and retainers aswell? Some of the notes on the cams say you must replace the springs and retainers. Cheers

If I go for the crow cam, what size pushrods should I go for standards or go larger? Any other upgrades I would need to run this cam? Or just freshen everything up and run it? Just wanting to clean the engine up and get abit of tone to it for a mean cruiser. Anyone got links or anything showing them running any cams would like to see and compare.

Do they know any cams that would work well as an upgrade with the stock computer?

Hi all, i have this year purchased a xf 1985 efi, I'm having trouble with the top end, the lifters where going off there nut, i brought a whole set of lifters and at the time there was one loose rocker, and the rest where all pretty loose as well so I tightened them all up without getting on info on it, put the rocker back on and drove it and still had a bigger rattle, took rocker off and one of the pushrods where bent and also the bolt for the rocker snapped off. Yes this was mine and my mates fault as this is a project we have both been working on. We did put 2 washers on that rocker to stop it moving, and that would of been the reason behind it snapping. My my question is should I take the whole top end off and through it out and find another running mint head and change it straight over? And when I do use the new lifter I have in that head? I'm willing to learn step by step, and have learnt my lesson, and I'm not sure if the pushrods bending and jumping out of spot may have stuffed the head. im located in Melbourne Mountwavelrey and is anyone selling a efi complete head or even a complete running Xf efi for cheap I could see running as I don't want to be in the dark if that head is runined also, if anyone is willing to come down and help when I do have the parts (won't be free of charge you tell the price) would be appreciated as well. i have attached a few photos of my Xf. Yea mate I know the Bosch ones, but wanting them in a red colour way, no brand does it expect eagle, just wanting to tidy everything up as my engine bay looks very crap, and all old components, ahaha today I cleaned out both washer bottles! Took abit though. Little things count for me at the moment!

Hi all, is there a way to get the leades a different colour? Wanna get them but do I have to order them if to be a different colour? Cheers! Or anyone know a brand that does them different colour?

Cheers mate interesting, I just thought the 85 pre needed additive as it was leaded. With the oil is that more of a protective oil? Just looking more for something that is good on the engine for its age, I remember when I first took all my plugs out to see what was going wrong with the car when I first started having problems and the very back one was so thick with oil and deadset sludge all on the threads it was so thick! I’ll try get a photo one day up of it! Never seen anythin like it!

Alright guys! Saturday I’m doing a service on it! What oil do you recommend!! Plug brand and type. And leads! Also as it’s a 85 model, should I be running 91-95 with additive? Cheers

Update for all you. Rocker went back on with all lifter rockers and pushrods torqued all installed, i picked up a silver xf efi complete, Everything efi out of it and used the bits I needed to tidy up mine and have spares, swapped the isc unit and the maf airbox over and few of the vaccine hoses, also swapped tailshafts as mine was a huge round one on the end I’m pretty sure it’s out of el? For the one without the big dome around it hard to explain. At the start up it wasn’t running right, with all the new stuff until about 5 minutes in when it tuned itself I reckon and it’s amazing!! No stalling no leaks, there is still a slight ticking which is fare as the live may be worn. I’m going to put thicker oil aswell. mths car is running no tailpipe at the moment as the tailpipe I have is the stock and my extractors back is 2.5inch so it’s loud... next. Clean up the wiring. Am I able to connect the wires all together so I don’t have that many on the terminal? And tips on cleaning it up? once I’m happy with it and everything is up to my standards and running as good as a daily it’ll go in for the rust in the boot seal and the bit in the rear mud guard cut out and respray, anyone recommend someone for the job, not looking for a show car finish just a going over as a neat car. Yes that’s the one mate. That controls the idle at all temperature? So it’s basically like a choke on cold start aswell?

Alright when I first got the car it would idle fine but then it started stuffing up and I unplugged the isc plug and it would idle fine once warm. Afm isn’t the problem as it’s plugged in now and it’s fine, cheers for the help guys, what oil thickness should I put in? There is still a lil ticking sound but I reckon that’s the cam. I’m looking for a isc and the hose that goes from it to manifold. Cheers all

Give all. Everything is back together!!! It’s seems to be running decent but is not when’s the isc and the airflow sensor is plugged in! Is this just faulty units?
