Torque Convertor BW 35 vs BW 40

Recommended Posts

I got a 88 xf  auto ute given to me.

It had a dodgy BW 40 trans in it .

I have a  doner Xe maybe BW35 or   Bw 40  (cant remember) that I got the tranny and torque convertor out of.

I sent the ute to get the trans swapped but forgot to send the torque convertor.

So the torque convertor  that was mated with the Xe  Bw 35 didn't go in.

So now I have the Xe tranny BW 35 in the Xf.

without the factory mated torque convertor.

I did get the speedo drive plastic cog to changed over .

Form the xe one to xf style I think the xf one was green.

So it has a XE BW 35 tranny  with a  XF BW40 torque convertor.

Is this going to cause any dramas ?

Shouldn't matter, the only real differences between the BW40 and 35 were internal strengthening. There may have been slight differences in the stall speed in the converter?

I know BW40 had different converters between carby and EFI boxes.

Turns out the XE tranny was a BW 40 as well.

Brought it home all seems fine.

Mechanics even said they wouldn't have changed the torque converter even if was in the ute.

Funny the auto guy was adamant it would make a difference.
