popem 22 Posted April 25, 2016 Hey all, my XE has been getting hot lately, and I narrowed the problem down to the water pump. I am using the day off today to get it fixed up, I have managed to get the pump assembly off the front of the engine with the clutch fan still attached. But now I'm stuffed if I can get the fan off the front of the pump housing, I jam the pump up with a screwdriver and try to undo the 4 bolts that hold the belt pulley on the front of the housing. Any tips or pointers or is there an easier way of getting the assembly apart? Cheers, and thanks in advance!
SLO247 1,713 Posted April 25, 2016 The nut is reverse thread. Clamp the pump in a vice and give the nut a sharp tap on the edge of one of the sides. Use a big flathead and a hammer. Usually works.
popem 22 Posted April 25, 2016 You mean the 32ish mm nut right behind the fan? Ended up getting it apart after much head scratching and a big set of vice grips. Is that thread on the end of the pump shaft a pressed on bit of gear or will a replacement water pump come with the thread already on the end?
