XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 25, 2014 Is there any other bellhousing that will bolt a T5 to a crossflow, or is the XF T5 bellhousing it? Don't want to have to fork out big $$$ on a Castlemaine one, and XF ones seem to be elusive... I'm located in SE QLD if anyone knows where I can find one... Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 25, 2014 No other one will bolt straight up. But, a XF 3spd manual bell housing comes close, you just have to drill one hole and tap it. 1 XFute-1JZsoarer reacted to this
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks for that mate, that's kinda helpful. I'm also lookin at swapping the 4 litre engine at some point down the track. So don't want to invest too much into a bellhousing. Are the holes tapped in the bellhousing? I thought the box had the holes tapped? Appreciate the input, cheers. Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 25, 2014 Bellhousing to block aren't tapped in the housing, but you won't need to change them. Box to bellhousing are tapped bellhousing side so that you can bolt the box to the housing.
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 25, 2014 That makes it a little trickier. I thought it would be like the single rail I pulled the bellhousing off yesterday, it has them tapped into the box...
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 25, 2014 So in theory, the bellhousing can be bolted to the block separately, and then the box afterwards?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 25, 2014 I may be wrong, it's been over a year since I done my T5 conversion. Only other gearboxes I've had out since then have been BW40 autos, they have the thread in the bellhousing, but they're autos.
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 25, 2014 If I'm right, then yeah. I have my old 3spd manual bellhousing lying around somewhere. I'll check it tomorrow see if the box to BH holes are threaded or not.
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 25, 2014 That would be great if you could. What's the goin rate for a 3 speed bell?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 26, 2014 Holes in the 3spd BH are threaded.
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 26, 2014 So it would work with a drilled and tapped hole like you were saying? Would any of the X series crossflow 3 speed bellhousings be alright to use, or only the XF one?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted March 26, 2014 Yep should work. I'd guess any x series xflow, but has to be three speed manual.
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks mate, if I can find a cheap one I'll grab it. Otherwise I'll just leave it till I do the 4 litre conversion. Should have an XG sitting here tomorrow if all goes as hoped...
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted April 4, 2014 Mr Polson, you think an XC falcon one will be alright, I can get one for $55 posted, but not sure if it will be ok to use?
Mr Polson 10,214 Posted April 4, 2014 Not sure to be honest, as said in your project thread, XC 3spd had no synchro on 1st, whereas XF did. So may be different box/bell housing.
XFute-1JZsoarer 140 Posted April 5, 2014 Ahhh ok, I got ya mate. Finding info about it is almost making me bold from ripping my hair out. Lol. I think I might give up on it and just focus on getting the swap sorted. Thanks for the help anyway mate, very appreciated! Cheers. Jay.
