Hi I took falcon out for drive and was nice. Seems to get rattle under decent acceleration and severe deiseling/running on when turn ignition off. The 250 has flat top pistons mild cam, shaved and ported head with over size valves. im running 35 dwell reading and 6-8 deg timing as per specs. idles smooth in d at 650rpm. im using 95octane fuel and the stock stromberg. Wondering what coukd be.

Au emmisions diagram would. Im sure a hunt around an au would point you in right direction.

I'm in the city. Havent rattled it do death at all. Running well as soon as there was rattle I backed off heaps of 98 around but im sure the time I Need it servo wont have it.

Looks like a stock engine will go in then cause not all country towns will stock 98 ;-)

Its not reading accurate anyway. Was looking at aftermarket manual ones now too for fuel Gauges. I dont have a submerged line any more. Running a xf efi tank so pick up is at bottom of tank now. Much better. Whats the Castrol m additive and where to get it? Any mods needed on stock carb or fuel pump so e85 compatible

E85 in carbs???? Doesnt it eat fuel hose and pump diaphrams, carb seals etc? Castrol m?

Ok 95 out 98 in and fired up straight away. Rattle noticbly better (less) so retatded timing then timing light globe blew at 6 btdc. I test drove much better so retarded by feel slightly and better again. Retarded a bit more Idle got choppy. So maybe a bit more 98 and will see as only had 5lt jerry can. Better plugs and an elec dizzy may be ok to get out and about. A bit better carb for breathing and would be better again. Not happy gotta use 98 as sort of defeats a camper wagon lol. No 98 out bush Parts hauler it is I guess. cheers for all the help folks.

Im thinking of similar options. Even a whole stockish 250xflow. I dont need mods on this thing just a runner. A stock iron head would be better for me so I dont need to stuff around with manifolds etc. Bolt on and off.

Cool where do you get these shims/decompression plates from. acl dont list copper for the iron head crossy

Mmmm where to get copper gasket and price. Could be better with the 302 option if it doesn't run ok on 98. Mrs wants me to sell if cant fix. If I sell of part then a 302 might fix it ;-)

Now ive had this discussion with datsun guy's and they dont belive this 2 gasket stuff. My mechainc says its a cheap fix for a couple years if your not going for outright power. Does it work with the ironhead crossflows??? Or just too dodgey

Wheres the clamps on your fuel lines. I had a car that droped a line like that. Lucky was only off the lights and lost all power. Droped off into the pump so at least didnt pressurize all through a hot bay.

Octane boost my 95 or just dump it and try 98. If no good boost that. how much is that stuff anyway

Its not overly blowing by from breathers. No vapour really but some air as ive noticed from most high comp motors ive had before

Its xd cast iron head. No mark there so who knows what head it is. Going to drain the tank and get 10 lt of 98 and try that first.will set timing again and disconnect vac advance. Not sure how to limit mechanical advance. Otherwise Anyone in the market for a warmed up xd iron crossy lol.
