Jury is still out on the lower pillar. Guards will come off but they are like the little torana, welded on [emoji22]

Yeah, it's a little odd like that. Heater bubble has something going on but it's not flogged out, may have already been done once maybe.

I'm genuinely amazed that vent isn't rusted through

While there is orange paint under the bonnet I'm 99% sure this was a white car and not a colour change. It's too consistent for a respray although it has had a blow over at some point because you can see acrylic primer peeking through the side panels.

Here we go, lots of pics

I'll take a few pics of the bad bits later, like Daveo said it's a rusty box but I'm not bothered. Not the worst car I've worked on but probably the worst I've owned.

This looks like the perfect upgrade.. [emoji16][emoji28][emoji28]

Yeah commodore wouldn't happen even if it did bolt in. Nissan stuff would be more likely. I don't mind upgrading brakes, I like ones that work [emoji6] The 2L and auto could be a possibility if they are cheap to get and if they will be happy on gas. Last 2L I drove daily was in a pulsar that drank like it had a few more cylinders.

Whatever I do it won't be manual or turbo. I'd like an overdrive auto but will deal with all that later. I might go straight LPG too. As BGDAV said, the body is as stuffed as any other 70s car but the back half isn't bad. It needs big surgery in the sills and windscreen pillars at very least. Roof gutter is bad on one side, better on other. Cargo floor is practically mint and the car seems to be complete an was looked after at some point as a work vehicle judging by the shadow of a sign on back window.

No idea what I'll do for power yet. I'm thinking simple 4cyl modern upgrade with auto but it's a blank slate and zero budget right now. It does have the 1300 in it but no understanding or details on it yet. I'm very unfamiliar with the details here

As comparison, my au wagon has a self tuning set-up, closed loop sensors pick up from o2 sensor etc. I get pretty much 13/100k on a daily basis, better on long highway trips. So I'd say it close to the mark as it is but maybe could be slightly leaner for idling. Those mixers are easy to adjust, had a similar model on my range rover and got around the same ish economy as you get now.

If something fell inside a pillar and it went straight down, should be able to access from behind the trim. Not hard to check, think there's only two screws/clips
-
Have you taken the inside kick trim off?

Welcome Greg, I have nothing to add of constructive merit other than I like f trucks and v8s but would like to thank you for noting our common sense quota... Here at Ozfalcon, we have lofty goals in that department and by Jo we'll reach them, how can we fail with this much helium at our disposal? But don't just take my word for it, as 9/10 goat herders agree, I like coffee.. Want a cup? [emoji16][emoji477]

If that link doesn't work, you can find his thread in the extreme builds section

Hi Matty, welcome aboard. I'd suggest having a read through Ant's thread on the farm Ute.. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eozfalcon%2Ecom%2Eau%2Fapplications%2Ftapatalk%2Findex%2Ephp%3F%2Ftopic%2F7073-Sleeping-with-the-fish%27s%2C-barra-turbo-xe-ute-sleeper%2E&share_tid=7073&share_fid=64023&share_type=t Sleeping with the fish's, barra turbo xe ute sleeper. I believe he did it as a step by step so you should find the info in there. I'm sure one of the boys can narrow it down for you when they chime in. [emoji106]

Sounds like the striker needs to move outwards slightly. It's likely to be a door/hinge alignment problem, get him to check the door for fatigue cracks while he's messing around with things. If the door is cracked at the hinge it could make the self opening worse. If he's good I'm sure he'll sort it for you but these days may not be familiar with older models. Can't say I ever saw an x series come through the smash shop while I was working that side and that was a few years ago now.

Just saw Ants post on fb looking for Saab chaser rims, thought you may know of some hidden away to put him in touch with. He's after a pair but will buy singles or set.

This is mine, had it a few years now. Pioneer MXT-356BT model.

Should be good, looks like a slightly revamped version of the one I've got in the wagon. It will probably have the demo mode, access that menu with the unit "off" and long press on the large dial if it's the same. Edit: if you want no lights at all (display off at night for example), a long press on the "disp" display button will turn the whole lot off but will briefly illuminate if you then use any functions like volume etc. If you have trouble seeing track info when using Bluetooth, you may have to change the version of Bluetooth used by your phone. Head unit will probably be older version than an up to date phone. The difference made mine display "no name / no info" until I changed the setting.

In theory, running a 351 etc on straight LPG gets you around most of the emissions regs because it's as good or cleaner than the petrol engine you replaced BUT most states have the rule about engine being same/newer than the car, can't be older unless the exact same engine series. As far as I know off the top of my head there's no legal work around for that especially in cars built after 95 when most of the ADR were updated. Having said that, if you don't tell and nothing happens to allow them to find out.. Did it really happen. (And no, I'm not condoning or advocating this approach)
-
Agree it would probably be too straight, au has a lot more curve than an xf
-
Maybe it was the tangential application of the thread that initially caused the problem, in which case, proceeding on a tangent other than the aforementioned original would in fact be a beneficial course of action in order to align said thread with it's intended point of reference. Yes?

I like pioneer, always have. I've tried jvc and sony but the control and sound characteristics aren't as good as even the base pioneers. My shop stereo is the cheapest mechless bluetooth unit available on ebay, works well, sounds good even for limited controls. Bit unattractive but similar to a pioneer style
