  1. note that when using roller rockers on a crossflow ,the cup in the rocker that holds the pushrod sometimes is set deeper than stock ,i found this out on my crossflow after having it milled it actually needed longer than stock length which i couldnt work out until the machine shop told me ,will depend on brand of rocker.

  2. from the research ive done on these blocks from other websites including usa forums there was a first run of these nascar blocks cast in australia in the xc era ,group c cars like the dj coupe was running one ,i dont no how many were made but some or all of them did NOT have pillows yes did NOT have pillows i have seen a picture of one in temeyers workshop ready for assembly, probly a core left over from a racing camp, but the 2nd lot made in GF did have pillows, they range from very late xd to mid 82 casting in xe,the one i had was may 82 cast.

  3. yes thats another ford part that is drying up,im looking for a pan fill c4 core or working gearbox in good cond ,and fit my big block bell to it,i already have flexplate and sandwhich plate, should i just get a stock clevo converter or up it to a 2200-2500 ? cause it will have a cam in it ,not big thou

  4. so why is 70 down the hole bad ? with 9.5.1 ,why why why did ford do this ? when the average clevo is 30 down the hole,is it more prone to ping pong and detonation with 70 thou ? than zero ? the 400 was born in mid 1971 and experimental 4v manifolds are very rare i have seen a few castings with the xe prefix and to suit 4v heads, but by 1972 it was all over and the dredded call from head office said bin the lot,it only took 50 years for someone to make a zero deck piston available, ahh let me correct that some 400 pistons were made in the 80s in small numbers with a higher comp height but i guess the 400 was not popular enough to continue manufacturing im sure they were speed pro forged you can find some info on them on the net.

  5. or comp ratios with the open chamber heads is 9.75 with 13cc,10.25 with 7.5cc or 10.7 with 3cc pistons.i just had a look at these pistons again and they have gone up in price again, probly cause they only made 1 big lot and now are down on stock in the usa, might have to wait until a surplus happends and then buy em at a decent price or just go for the stock pistons as my car will not be a race car.

  6. only problem is dean the factory style pistons are down the hole 70thou,the aftermarket ones come in 3cc 7.5cc and 13cc so a fair bit of choice there, using open chamber heads ,lowest comp with the -13cc will be 10.5.1,then 12.1 and 14.1 ,these pistons were made with using the open chamber heads in mind.

  7. i have 2v c/c heads ready to use, eddy alloy intake, crank is done, just need pistons and internals, plan is to put it in my next wheels but finding something is getting hard,i will pay up to 5k for a xe sedan as long as the body is ok,have c4 bell suit big block, would love to do another chestnut sedan up even if i have to paint it ,t bar auto ,no power steer,no air,and leave the diff std ratio i have had enough of playing diffs, just a family cruiser i suppose.

  8. i just had a quick look on usa e bay and there is so much available for these engines,a lot more than a 400 thats for sure, full rebuild kit for a 1968-85 is only $340us,but seems the later model efi engines are a bit more, even junkyards are asking $795 for a long engine ,hey gerg is there any way a crossy head can be bolted on ? or 2v 250 head

  9. yes i had just moved up here from sydney ,and was out of doing cars up,then i hear on the radio redcliffe dyno home of the worlds fastest clevo street car,and i thought yeah right, but at the time it was true,im glad i made the move up here some 20 years ago,i lived on the sunshine coast, brisbane ,and now the gold coast, but tbh the st machine sceene up here was a bit light compard to sydney back in the day, melbs also, now its all hoons with AU falcons.

  10. just about everybody here on the gold coast is in the tourism trade, its 28 deg here atm and just had that mega storm go thru ,also buying a fridge today just as a spare 2nd hand one,she said just put it in the garage, before i bought it i made sure a borg warner centre would fit in the freezer to shrink it a few thou cause dont have a spreader.

  11. my oil filter thing came from the usa ,says suits 335 series and big block ,this is going on my 400 ,couldnt find any company here that does them ,also has a big allen key hex to screw it in,im also back at work ,i got my old job back i started on monday and things are looking up,now i can think about a roller cam and spend a bit more where it is needed.gYCERHs4_o.jpg
