is your motor efi or carby ?
-
Thankyou xpt,if you go on vines website, there is many pic's of manifolds and intakes for the crossy and even a twin turbo efi manifold which quite a few xf's got back in the day,and some good viewing at older ait set up's,im going to look at that 6 boost manifold your talking about.ok i only found a manifold for the ba bf and fg not crossflow ? or will they make one upon order ?
-
xelisty what size turbo is that on the vine manifold ?thankyou for your pic's,i live not far from where mike vines is,maybe i should take a trip there and see whats on offer.
-
yes thats them, thanks for your time to explain the manifolds, what about the mike vine crossflow intakes there seems to be quite a lot of different ones as well, some for efi and blow threw.
-
today on e bay i see 2 new types of turbo manifolds for crossys and others hand made in tassie, anyone else seen them ?
-
yeah i already have my engine still in the car a 82 alloy head 2,im just collecting bits because they are hard to find around here.
-
yesterday when i was wondering around the wreckers i started looking in old dark places in the shed and i found 2 alloy heads 1 was e1 and the other was different again probly a later type,i will grab these next week ,one of them had the efi rocker cover still on it ,he wont want much for them so i might start collecting bits for future builds, there is plenty of EF falcons there i might try and see if i can get a crankshaft as well to suit the later crossy block.
-
where can you buy a turbo exhaust manifold for a crossy, and what would be the optimum turbo these days ? the xr 6 garrett ? ,ive done plenty reading on the original AIT set ups,ive also looked at the weiand 144 blower set up,and a 4/71 drive system.
-
I also remember seeing a crossy with 265 or 245 chrysler rods many years ago,i suppose people were doing this before the acl short piston was available.
-
i wonder did they have the same length rod as the 200 with just a longer stroke on the crank ? i remember throwing one in a metal recycle skip about 20 years ago lol i thought it was out of an xt falcon.
-
ok good info, thanks, concerning crank and rod combo's,has anyone ever used the 221 c.i set up ,i have no idea's about rod length on this motor, just thought i would throw that one in for good measure?
-
so what roller lifters actualy fit ? or do you have to mod the comp cam ones ,is there really a huge difference in power between a big solid and roller cam ?Yeah i read a thread on here about the sump mods ect,,, very interesting, and the ef crank thing.
-
what about cleveland or windsor ?
-
ok why big block ? are they longer to sit in the lifter bore ? i just got on the tighe website wow some serious solids and the roller is semi finished to gring whatever your spec is,may i ask how much your cam was ?just had a look at the presecion pistons ,there are heaps of them from 5cc to 30cc,but some have the 1.547 pin and some have 1.478 are these the 200 rod pistons ?
-
yes wagoon the crossy has the same rockers,i have built several clevelands including this pillow-block thats going into the xe soon.
-
ok,where do you get this nice roller cam for the engine ? i have read somewhere that big block roller lifters will fit ?
-
ok so what cc would my stock pistons be ,i think i meant c2 head not e2.
-
see the thing is i just spent 12 months building a 357 c.i cleveland for my xe and have a fmx as well to go in,i never thought i would get interested in the crossy thats in it,its a low km engine mid 82 alloy head 2 and it goes really well ,so when it comes out i plan to spend some bucks on it to hot it up for drags and fun,if i can find a corty or xd xe xf to play with thats the idea,i have a friend who owns and runs a machine shop, and he is keen to help me do up this crossy,so all the info i can get is really appreciated guys, what flat tops are still available for the 4.1 all i have been able to find is keith black flat-tops,im sure the factory pistons will have some dish in them so i want to bump up the comp, zero deck it,mill the head and try for around 10.5.1. or more. i think i have the e2 head leaded 1982.
-
so the 6-3-1 extractors,3x1/2 exhaust, should be enough for a wild crossy build, what is the max these engines will put out once sorted,320-350hp ? i have read a lot on here the last few months, seems the go is a big crow or camtech, roller rockers, aussie speed manifold and 4 barrel 600 vac or pumper, and exhaust,i think i read somewhere a full street trim xe or xf runs a 11 sec quarter ? is this true.
-
ok cheers, has anyone ever tried a dual exhaust on a 6cyl i have seen a few in the old days on xc's and others.
-
ok what is 6-3-1 ?
-
ok i didnt no that, cheers, what about if building a more powerful n/a crossy, would you go for the average set of extractors or go straight for a nice set of pacemaker or aussie speed type ,at the moment i have a 2x1/4 o.d with std exhaust manifold,i was thinking of 2x1/2 or 3 inch single,i will be running a 600vac,aussie speed 4 barrel manifold, larger cam ect ect,
-
After looking at a lot of different extractors i see some that have 2 sets of bolt holes on the top flange, can someone tell me why this is,or is it for pre-crossy,or f100,cortina fitment ? i see this a lot on headers ?.
-
Nice shower of rain here before so i headed out to the hill to test the lsd and when i got there a few others had the same idea as me,i was surprised at first as it was gripping hard ,meaning the lsd was working good, then a lot more gas and sideways she goes.
Outback Jack and gerg reacted to this

yes i have had a quick look at this before, nice ! because mine is carby could i use the 6boost or vine manifold with a set up like yours with the intercooler ect, then a blow thru on to 4 barrel manifold and carby ? or is efi the only way to go with turbo's,i have read something about later alloy heads having the bosses for efi in them even thou they were carby model's,mine is a webber std.
