Finally got a set of digital thingos so measured up all the blocks and have 7 standard bore and 1 thirty thou and 1 forty thou , also the crank came back from hot tank and polished now take the block down and see if we stay 030 or go 040 Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

Just about pulled apart everthing down to bare blocks and bought a few big containers to put parts in . Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

Yeah good answer not many im in 2 minds about ridge cutting it as there is a very small lip on the bore or just go 040 over with a new bore n hone as its gunna cost the same piston wise and $$$ to ridge cut it if staying 030 i will take it down to the machine shop and see what he reckons or just lightly wet n dry the lip with wd40 and just a quick hone a few things to think about Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

The black block thats turned out blue is a goer now i really cleaned it up but found out its 030 i new one or 2 of the blocks was oversize as olm8 just threw these ones in and i dropped the crank at the machine shop to get hot tanked and polished i will probly order new pistons as mace eng now do some cheapies at $260 a set and $70 for rings . What a mess to get to the std bore block it also had std factory bearings and timing chain , also good news the crank is quite up to a polish for the 302c rebuild Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
-
I dragged the other 302c out for inspection and teardown lets hope the crank is ok Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

the crank is not good on this one and there is no way im gunna get it ground,i have the other 302 c engine to take apart aswell, lets hope the crank is a bit better on that one.

ok i put a solid day in and end of it got the block looking a lot cleaner for sure ,turned out this one was 10/10 bearings and new pistons,so puts it as a candidate for re co ,also had a double chain, turns out its a 1973 block and here i was thinking a black block.
-
Yes correct and my thoughts of a black block have now turned blue block ,this engine has been rebuilt and all bolts coming off easy and they were perfect on torque settings ,shes a 302c and in good cond inside even cam looks reuseable maybe , its very dirty on the outside but inside its a gem ,now onto if its had pistons and bearings my gut feeling is yes Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

Ok lets start the stripdown of what appears to be a black block that turns freely and has typical xd xe v8 water neck. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

i might try a local produce shop and see how much a drum is ,even if its $300 ,that much might do all blocks ?
-
ok he gunna charge $150 for hot tanking and rust dipping, price is ok but i think i will just sell them the way they are for a cheaper price, like $300 ea .

thanks dale

if i take the blocks to the machine shop olm8 is gunna charge an arm and a leg to hot tank and dip in rust solution ,he has some citrus fluid he dips em in ,i might go there this morn and see if we can strike a cheaper deal from him.

looking at the single plane for days while ozfalcon was offline i was sold that it was higher than the weiand but nope the dual is about 1/2 inch taller, just finding a 400 single plane is a mission as only in the 80s they were available new im stoked with this one just needs a tidy up.among the clevo haul is a 302 xc engine i will use the heads off this for my own 400 build, also a 1981 LTD short motor black block still turns easy and a few other black blocks ,others are all xb fairlane and falcon f100 d2ae blocks std bore ,im still searching for a product that i can submerge the blocks in to get rid of the surface rust, they are all usable i have seen a lot worse brought back to life .
-
I also scored 9 std bore clevos they all need cleaning and de rusting quite a good selection from 1973 to 1982 i figure to just clean em up and maybe sell a few becoming hard to find in std bore Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk

i have this idea of making my own hot tank or rust removal tank out of a 44 gallon drum or a big steel bin from bunnings, the blocks i bought will all need a really good clean and surface rust removal, but buying say enough chemical to half fill a drum is very expensive, only other way might be doing a deal at the machine shop to dip 8 blocks in his tank ?
