yeah i wasnt to keen on the fmx at first but ford put these suckers behind the five 1 for a reason,so im boltin err up.
-
there is quite a selection of alloy centres for 9 inches now so putting one in can save a fair wack of weight.
-
YUP i have a fmx here and man are they heavy, iron casting, but the fmx is a good box,im putting it behind the pillow-block ,im dropping it down at the trans place soon to get it checked over before i mate it up,the fmx also has a 31 spline yoke compared to the c4 which has the smaller one.

Hmmmmm the DU-CROSSY

I had this idea while we are talking about webber's,making a custom alloy sheet-metal manifold to accept 3x 2 barrel's or 2 x 500 holley's,or cutting the efi banana manifold and welding 3 x 2 barrel adaptor's,feeding 2 cyl's each ?
-
if it's an 302 and c4 and borgy it will be quite lighter than fmx and 9 inch if its an older model eg'' xa-xc
-
Some of those other xd -e bathurst group c car's were about 400kg more than DJ'S CAR,thats why they were'nt front runner's.
-
most of the 351c sedans i have had say 1475kg on the rego slip.with LTD'S being heavier.
-
yeah i think your right,i will have a look underneath(lol)
-
OK , well maybe it was a option for fords buyer's maybe not to keen on the idea about a plastic tank, because my mates one has the spare wheel in the middle of the boot in the metal ?
-
i just did some research on this subject and it seems some others think there was some steel tanks in xd sedans as well ? the reason i always thought this is because i have seen many !Im sure my mate who has a mint GL up the road has a steel tank in his ,i will go and check it out.
-
utes and p-vans and wagons still had the steel
-
79 model and early xd's must have had the steel tank ? is that right guy's
-
i think the 2nd true blue was walked, the first one was a ex cop car ?
-
yep thats where dick johnson spotted an error in the cams weigh in for the xd- xe ,it was based on a 3 speed manual ,no air or steer,1320kg,but the 5.8 weighed heaps more, thats why true blue had such a power to weight ratio, with that 351c barking 400 odd hp in a lightn'd car.
-
yeah base models with no air con or steer, the xe was a tad lighter than the xd,it had a plastic fuel tank instead of the metal one ect....
-
IVE just always been a falcon person, but i do like cortys but its hard to find a decent one at the right money a te or tf i would choose, but its more just about having fun ,plus i no xe's very well,i have read somewhere on here that the corty is only 100kg lighter than a basic falcon is this true ?

YEP MY MATE DID IT IN 3 MINUTES WITH THE CORRECT TOOL !
-
i bought a bosch copy v8 alternator, not bad for for $144 and got a numbers bosch dizzy ,new metal gt copy vaccum tree ,coil, more coming.
-
i already have the spare bonnet to cut up,i had this idea for the exhaust like a top fuel car, with 6 pipes coming out the other side of the bonnet ,would match the 6 intake trumpets.
-
i can get my hands on an efi intake for almost nothing ,i will grab it tomorrow and start to wonder if it can be cut or modded to suit 6 x carby's.
-
i could have had the gears swapped over by now (lol)
-
yeah thanks mate but all this i have thawt of allready, and i put a 275-60-15 on to see the difference ,about as tall as a 225-70-15 and it was only marginal,BF GOODRICH do a nice 235-70-15 which is even taller but you loose the profile look.To fix the pinion the whole lot has to come out anyway ,i have a set of 3.08's here ,let's see.
-
yes i started with a 3.27 open EB diff ,then got a LSD centre, swapped the crown gear over ,new carrier and wheel bearings, and the sucker is still noisy,i didnt change the pinion bearing .now im wishing i did ,i used the same shims on the LSD centre,i didnt need a diff spreader,1st time i ever did any diff work ,i just need now to do the pinion as i imagine thats where the noise is coming from ?
-
being a alloy head what are you winding them too ?about 60 ft-lbs ?
