-
starting to get in order of assembly

Old mate came up from sydney today and popped in to pick up a flywheel and he spotted the ford 4643-3 2 barrel 375 cfm holley that came on the engine, since he no's his stuff he offerd to re-co it for free if he can have the throttle shaft as it was a rare one he said,so when it comes back it will be perfect and clean ready for running.

Spent most of the day cleaning the dizzy came up ok,single point bosch,i also replaced the rubber seal around the housing.
-
ok good info ,so thats why i see the notch in std bore blocks (well some of them),i have quite a stash of parts atm so im just gunna keep this block as is until the 302 is finished.
-
i was going to build a 393 or 408 with some CHI OR AFD ALLOYS and the larger valves, but i no the blocks can be lipped at a machine shop, but yeah just thought i had a good score,is it only nescersary to have the lip with large camshaft lift and or size of the valve thom ?
-
I made a mistake the gasket corner looked a bit like the lip on the block so its just a normal bore.
-
Painted the covers and clear coated them.
-
Here is a picture of the last 302 i built ,a 1972 xa fairmont engine.
-
Yes and the other one I'm rebuilding is a 77 also ,only a month difference I think.
-
i got the parts back from the wash tank,i have wd 40 the things that are not ready yet,and will paint the rocker covers tomorrow and the block.
-
This motor is gunna be gangsta from what it was,i will be selling it when its finished in a few weeks,it wont be expensive if you need a nice engine to replace your old 302.
-
Also old fuel pump came up nice, water pump was cleaned-painted silver then 2 coats of clear, looks fine to me.
-
You saw how much caked on soot was stuck on these valves, spent about 1hour just on these 4 but well worth the time doing it.They are the std 2.05 intake and 1.65 exhaust.
-
Got a fair bit done today ,cleaned 4 pistons ,4 valves,re-co the water pump (looks better than new),cleaning those ring grooves is the most time consuming thing to do .
-
I found an original factory replacement chain (lol) the old timing gear was in such good condition ,just the chain had a small amount of play so instead of paying $140 for a double roller i got this one for $14 yee haa.
-
yeah those teflon seals are good as well,i have a felpro set of normal seals they will be fine in this application,im also thinking of putting these heads on my 351 engine,i have done the math's on the compression calcuator and comes in at 10.64.1 thats if i leave the chambers at 58 odd cc.
-
More stuff to get hot tanked, also the rods were 020 and mains 010,all coming along at full steam.
-
I took apart the heads and apart from the soot inside looks good, seats look ok,but will need new stem seals these ones are hard as a rock.
-
If its just a stocker can use either, but more high performance engines usualy use just the gaskets.Factory cast iron manifolds love the tin valley .
-
Tomorrow i will drop the block, sump, rocker covers, manifold off to the machine shop to clean them right up b4 painting, also expecting rings and bearings to show up.
-
After cleaning the timing cover i could see someone butcherd it where it meets the oil pan,for first timers that take the cover off it just unbolts and a few wacks she comes off,but you are supposed to undo the sump about 1/4 inch so it will come out easy,i no this cause i fooked mine the first time i changed cam and couldnt get it back on ,so i will go the wreckers tomorrow and grab a good one.

The block de-codes to 13th june 1977 cast
