also never looked hard enough but there is a tiny ford emblem in the casting.
-
By the ford book it says the B in 4ma-b is stamped into a polished part of the counterweight, but this one is just a 4ma.
-
Old mate did a good job on cleaning it up
-
an hour after i got home he rang me and said its ready to pick up,he put it on the lathe and polished it up,i will put a picture tomorrow.
-
I went to old mate's machine shop b4 and bandicooted this 4ma crank that had been re-co some time ago and forgotten about,so i made him a polite offer to clean it up so i can use it with the 6 inch 302 rod combo =good deal. The plastic was still stuck all over it.she is a 20/30 grind.

ok i see,good info gerg
-
but from the factory these motors pistons are down the hole,or is it too much of an machine cost to deck every engine they produced ?
-
every clevo i have had has heaps of deck ? your saying down the hole is not good ?
-
i did some checking ,your right the comp doesnt change the figures were off a zero deck thats why,i probly have a good 030 of deck which will come in handy i guess, plus a 070 comectic gasket will drop it to 10.1.1.thats with the 302 heads.
-
ok so why are people saying in many threads that this combo the cr goes up a lot more than usual ?
-
The cr with 58cc closed chamber heads on a std 351 unmilled with std rod piston combo is about 10.7.1 so how do you calcuate the 6 inch rod combo ?
-
how do you work out the compression ratio with the 6 inch rod combo ? with closed or open chamber heads
-
how does the shorter piston and 6 inch rod affect compression ratio ?
-
agree even 300 in 1971 was big numbers
-
ok i think i have it worked out,we will use the 351c crank and rods and get new +8cc dish pistons PFO351C80401H that will drop the comp to around 10.1.1,or we could use the 074 comectic head gasket to drop the comp with the pistons we have but the price works out the same around $370 so new pistons we will go !

i put the seal on the timing cover and lightly rubbed some engine oil on the rubber.
-
check the 4v man that is crazy big
-
I opened up the speedmaster gasket set and saw that they come with 2v and 4v intake gaskets, the size of the 4v is so big i thought nah this cant be real ? the 2v looks right,i already orderd a set of 2v intakes but 2 late now i have a spare set, also noted that they only gave 2 valve stem seals lol, where is the other 14 ? but other than that it looks ok for $49.95.
-
just trying to keep things simple and in budget, even with 040 it will bump up to about 9.5.1 in the 302 combo
-
I took the block down to the machine shop and it checks out for reco, hot tank or acid bath ,hone, cam bearings, and welsh plugs. Then we can decide if we are going to use the 351 crank n rods or keep the build as a 302.Keeping in mind we are using the closed chamber heads ,might be a bit stout at 10.7.1 with the 351 combo.

this is a usa 4ma in my pillowblock 351
-
Just local cast crank ,circa mid 70's,the normal 351 crank in the usa had 4MA cast into them and 4MA-B for selected models, but the whole argument for 45 years is the std crank is proberley as good as the 4ma-b,all of them are good to around 450hp
-
by 3.40 i had the whole short motor stripped, even the core plugs and oil plugs
