I have done some research this arvo on a boss 302 copy engine,i can get the 5.0L from the wreckers ,strip it down ,re use the bottom end with a set of cleveland pistons i have here and have 040 shaved off the top of them because the origianl boss 302 had 1.400 pin height and the clevo ones are about 1446 odd,you can use the std 302w rod and that combo ,or trw do a set but i have not been able to find them yet for the 302 rod,the boss 302 used 289 rods with larger bolts and a wicked dome piston giving 12.1,i can use a set of 302c heads here have them modded to suit the windsor and the boss 302 is re-born,i already have enough parts here to complete the combo just a bit of machine work, the block is also a roller lifter 5.0L i wonder will it need different length pushrods and cam ?
-
ok why the difference in gasket bore ? i see from 4.040 to 4.180 on MLS
-
bought my self some ring pliers and gloves about time too.
-
the summit one doesnt have the gasket diameter i wonder why
-
looks like a special tool is needed to take the old clutch off

The compressor i have was working ok in the 4.1L crossy i took out ,but im trying to keep the look of the new clevo as factory as possible,so today i cleaned it up and found its stamped 02/82 so its the original york type,on the crossy it sits upsidedown and on the clevo the oposite,so i just flipped it over and every thing looks like it will bolt straight on,i have the correct pulleys and tensioners, the big boxy york type commpressors are not popular with performance looks, but are great for the factory look or for a numbers ghia or whatever to put on,there seems to be 3 different pulley types ,the one i have is a 2 row for a crossy ,i have also seen a 1 row on a genuine xe esp,and the more common 1 row with the huge alloy backing on it,see pictures,if anyone has an old v8 type pulley ,please can i buy it to put on mine as the factory v8,s had em,also its dam hard to find the belt tensioners that work cause most of em are stuffed, and no one does re-po ones unless you want to change the bearings on them which is a fookin time labour job.
-
ahhhh you mean the outer diameter not thickness
-
ok i used 0.040 head gasket diameter isnt that what it is 0.040 ? not 4.100 and 2cc valve
-
The bearings turned up getting close now to assembly just waiting on the block
-
here is the 5.0L i can get cheap
-
baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

no all my blocks are factory down the hole,so achiveing 10.69 with std 040 gasket and 58cc 302 heads and approx 0.037 down the hole, but if i use a 066 MLS gasket it comes to 10.1
-
i use the summit compression calcuator ,and by the same input i get 10.69.1 and by your one gerg i get 11.8 ? with same data input ?
-
Question, what would be the better option,to buy 2 MLS 060 gaskets to keep the comp around 10.1 or releave the chambers on the 302 heads ? cost is around the same so what option would be the best.
-
so come on guys what is the correct comp for this combo approx 13.1 or 10.7 with 302 rods 351 crank and closed chamber std heads,we are getting many different figures ?
-
what time are you coming arouns mate
-
vark why not just chuck a 460 with a 500 odd kit it lol
-
i have the opp to buy a cheap complete 5.OL at the wreckers ,roller lifter block, use a set of 2v closed chamber heads i have here and the edelbrock mock boss intake for the boss 302 faker, but is it really worth it ?,i may as well just chuck a 351c in there even tho it woud be much heavier than the windsor, many combo's can be done,or put a 347 stroker kit in and the 2v heads with a bit of work so they mate up with the windsor water passages, but back to square 1 im still at 350 cubes .Also a special boss piston must be used with the cleveland heads, and 289 rods,or you must shave about 030 off the pistons if using the 302 w rods so it says in american mustang 302 boss forums.
-
what about the radiator on the xg i think its unique to that engine combo,so a v8 xd or xe one wont fit,has anyone used some other type or do you think the std xg one might be ok ?
-
is it just the wide-ness of the clevo head compard to the smaller wheezer
-
sorry yep i ment 1993 ,mine is a 1993 but december build,i think the 4.ol came out in march 93,
-
There is 2 mounting positions on the floor for the crossmember, the btr uses the further back one and the normal crossy or v8 should go straight into the front one, remember the early xg still was using the crossy before late 93
-
yes exactly,i just thought there was a different way to calcuate the short piston combo but its no different
-
i mean the crossmember for a c4 will or it looks like it will bolt straight in to the xg chassis
-
looks like the xe-f crossmember will bolt straight in,there is a provision for that ,but the btr box uses a different one.
