Non-pwr steering box, educate me
Defective replied to Defective's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
So this has become an issue, so much freeplay it's become too dangerous to drive. Sooo, if I somehow find a 16:1 box do they bolt straight in? And, anyone got one lol -

Two of the ones in the link I posted are three hole ones, they just all use the same generic 4 hole pic. Do the tubular arms correct the ballpoint angle? -

That all depends on brand of ballpoint too, as seen in the ball joint thread there's a big difference in range of movement between brands -

And after.... It's just on it haha, by the times the springs settle it will be hard on the bump stops. -

Converting to windowless without welding...
Defective replied to Defective's topic in Body and Exterior
I put a straight edge on it, it's not that shaped. Seems to curve away just near the edges. 'Should' be ok lol. -
I've been mulling over ditching the side windows in my van, but the whole idea of finding someone to weld up the holes and having the van out of action for a while does not interest me at all. The other day on bookface i saw a pic of a white van where the owner had just cut out some stainless the right shape and screwed it in place. I'm not a fan of exposed screws, but I was thinking of maybe the new bonding agents they stick modern cars together with. What would be the pros and cons of going this way? To be honest I'm only seeing pro's at the moment. Easy to diy No warped panels from welding No paint damage, would just need the new panel painted About 11ty times cheaper than paying it to be welded, filled and painted What am I missing?

Depending on cars running a 100 cell cat can bring up fault codes, on a xg I dare say you would have zero issues.

All good info guys, thanks. I not seeing any negatives in doing it this yet, think I'm convinced. -
I thought it was just a trim level between gl and Fairmont?

That would be way too convenient haha -
Last one of those xh fill panels I bidded on on eBay got to $75 before I bailed.

The led ones just aren't quite the right shape or size I reckon, definitely priced right though. I bought a pair of 100w halogens from autobarn for my xf, they're still close enough to the right size and shape, I not gonna put too much effort into lighting until I decide what front end I'm sticking with.

My xf has the turning circle to rival a oil tanker...

That will be a killer ride. I've always like, the big boxy kit that was popular on mk2's back in the day, zakspeed maybe? That with the rs2000 nosecone is damn near small car perfection in my eyes.

You can, it will just look odd.

Bloody legend... Considering the only one I've been offered the dude wanted $150 and it came out of wreck years ago and is in unknown condition I reckon that reman' one looks like a bargain. -

It had the control arms fitted today, obviously wheel alignment is well out. It's booked into fulcrum tomorrow night for them to try and get the alignment as good as possible and give me a heads up on what's going on.
