I ain't talking about skids....... lol. Mines a stock bench seat column auto work hack, with 280,000km on it.

Does yours chirp the first to second change, like my XH does if you floor it, then back off a bit?
  4. Where can I get one of those 24 valve twin cam heads for my crossflow?............

    250-300hp Crossflow

Believe me, you can feel them shaking themselves to pieces, anything more than about 4000rpm. Unless it's been modded, max torque is over at 3000rpm. I just think of the early GT exhausts - twin 2.25, dropping down to 2' for the tail pipes.

The commodores are all........ look at me, I like to rev, but I have no torque....... Speaking from everyday experience, even a basic modded EFI 5ltr holden V8 lack's lowdown torque. I get sick of constantly having to force a kickdown, cause there's no accelleration happening. But then you get too much, so you end up constantly hunting. Even my sisters V6 Mazda 929 yakuza staff car is the same. Frankly I prefer driving my standard XF/XG/XH 6cyl's so much more. They hate high revs, (over 4500 for the OHC's) but the torque is instant, and on tap at any time, in any gear.

I just realised your parts shopping list is from XRGLEN's thread....... my bad. I spose you could fit that cam, and see what happens. Maybe up the stall speed of the converter, to when the cam comes in. Try advancing the cam if you're keen. And make the exhaust a bit more restrictive.

Yeah I was meaning for a budget motor. He seemed to be good at getting a lot out of the engines, for not much outlay.

    Have a read of XRGLEN's 300hp Crossflow build thread - http://www.xfalcon.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11087-300hp-x-flow/page__hl__ 250hp xflow

Sound's like you need to get in contact with XRGLEN..... he was a firm believer that a single pattern cam, gave the best outputs on these engines. Where-ever he is now, he was definitely the Crossflow powermods guru.

You'd be suprised how good the weber carby can be. If it's rebuilt, rejetted and tuned correctly. They're an overcomplicated thing, but good when working well. One of the main reasons Holly 350's feel faster, is because both primary and secondaries open at the same time. With the weber's, the secondaries are progressive, to save on fuel.

After all, speed is just a question of money................ how fast do you want to go?

What carb/intake setup do you have?

Also remember, that a crossy won't like a large diameter freeflowing exhaust system either. If you've got no backpressure, you'll lose alot of lowdown torque.

    250-300hp Crossflow

For a mild crossy, you're really limited by the following - extractors/exhaust, intake manifold/carby, High torque cam, and reducing engine load by removing clutch fan, and adding thermo's instead. After that, start looking at things like torque converter, diff gearing, etc. (but you'll use more fuel) Following that, it's headwork to improve breathing. Larger valves, and HD valve gear. On from that, is balancing the rotating assembly, stronger rods, forged pistons, ARP fasteners, grouting the block, crank girdle, etc.

You would get more torque/power economically, by adding a low boost turbocharger. But even that is expensive unless you're on straight gas, or EFI.

Because they're a big dirty tractor engine in standard form, designed to live at 2,000rpm for most of the day. In everyday driving, you can't take advantage of high end power anyway. Make maximum use of what the long stroke six cyl does naturally - generate heaps of low down torque. I would just try to build on that, unless you want to spend a fair wack of money. You'll feel an extra 50nm of torque, so much more than another 50hp.

    hella lights question

The Hella XF spac lights are readily available from Repco, Bursons, etc. - Hella 155's I think the Ghia's may have used a bigger unit - Comet 450's. (but don't quote me there) Ford just used a generic fog light, but supplied their own special mounting bracket.

    250-300hp Crossflow

Forget about HP for a daily. I'd go for bulk torque, with say 150hp. It'll jump off the line, and feel pretty damn fast, without seeming like it's going to drop it's guts. Unless you balance the rotating assembly/EF crank etc, a 4.1ltr crossflow will not reliably tolerate anything more than about 4250rpm.
