Where'd you come across these ones? They look fairly tidy. Be damned if I can find a decent set of them either. I'm still looking though.
-
Pull fuses one at a time, and see which one (if any) makes the wipers, etc stop getting power. It could very well be a sticking contact in the ignition switch.
-
Doesn't have the original radio in it?
-
What reason did they give for not doing the tops anymore? Did you try asking for the top as a separate part? (separate part number is in this thread somewhere) Bursons or one of the steering re-build places, may have some old stock too.
-
Phase Auto's also do repro ESP/Sportsman type flush center caps, but in billet alloy instead of plastic. And they're $100 each. http://hofalcons.com/prices.htm

So..... Lesson 1 - never expect 'reconditioned' parts to work properly?
-
Pirtek hoses may have one. How'd you manage to bend that?
-
Are you going to get a vacuum gauge too?
-
Now now...... play nice peoples. It is a fair bit of mucking around yeah, but for those who want clear lenses it's the next best thing to not having them. Maybe contact SSS as a club rep too, and see if they'll get TYC to do a run of some XF tail lights. Then people can mod NEW tail lights, if SSS will only make the amber lens versions

The engine bay.
-
Yeah...... we need a pic of engine bay, to tell if it's a 1V 250 or 2V 250 Pursuit.
-
Vacuum gauge and/or compression check will help determine that. Does the engine have much blowby if you leave the oil cap off, when it's idling? If you end up wanting to rebuild the cylinder head, I know an old school engine rebuilder in Bayswater, from when my Uncle was a Mechanic. He's a pretty good bloke - knows alot of the old school tricks.
-
Apart from the Rough Idle, be specific - what is the engine doing that makes it not run properly. What are the issues. We should be able to work you through it, and narrow down the problems. Worse comes to worse, I s'pose you could bring it past my mancave/factory, and we can muck around with it for a day.
-
That's a hard ask these days. Very few if any, old school mechanics now. Need to find someone who know's classic cars. Rough idle can mean a Vacuum leak. Why not test for an intake manifold vacuum leak, and/or put a vacuum gauge on the engine and see what the needle does. Being an LPG engine, it could have a burnt valve, or valve seat recession, or something like that too. I'd be wary of a modern mechanic, as they will just go round replacing parts, rather than diagnosing. They are fantastically simple engines - however, there's no computer to spit out a fault code for mechanics to read. And these days, Mechanics be like - no fault code, no fix.

I'll be interested to see if the hard starting, is caused by the carby or the dizzy, or something else.

I hate reconditioned anything, with a passion. Especially when done by a third party - as usually it's done to a price, and can often be troublesome. Reconditioning, is just a fancy word for: 'cheap rebuild'. Little things like that, will also devalue the car. Not having the original parts etc. If parts have been changed in the past, and are not date matching when you get the car, that can't be helped, but any/all parts which are still original, it's important to preserve and retain them with the vehicle IMO.
-
Why not stick with the original Carby? They are date coded you know. Reconditioned doesn't mean rebuilt and working correctly though, so I'd put a question mark over that Carby. Try re-fitting the original one, and see if it's any different.

The linking and such was perfect, you just haven't told people what it's all about in the FB posts. (just a quick summary is always good - something that will make people want to find out more.) You'll need to edit the Facebook posts with the new links too, now I've merged topics.

Topics merged and POLL added

Maybe market the lense group buy a bit better, and not have it in the Wreckers section. It looks like you're just flogging second hand parts, when you see the Facebook linkbacks. I'd also do a POLL, at the top of the thread, for interested people to vote.

I've fixed up the messages thing, so all should be working now. Try it and see.

Caster bar and swaybar link pin bushes, I would replace with Polyurethane. All others, stick with Rubber bushes.
-
New how?

If it's just the first start of the day which is difficult, then I'd look at fuel supply issues too - a sticky drain-back valve, as has been suggested. And/or a non functioning accelerator pump in the carby. Carby issues are quite likely, if it's been on LPG for much of it's life. Like the Dizzys, Stromberg carbies are wonderfully simple devices. Full rebuild kits are under $40 usually. Don't be afraid to rebuild it yourself. (just don't do what Nath25 did with his one) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Falcon-XW-XY-XA-XB-Stromberg-WW-Carburettor-Gasket-Kit-NOS-Fairlane-/300725804237?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item4604a79ccd
