Power steering box adjustment
SPArKy_Dave replied to Kiwi-E's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
The early tops have a bronze bush, pressed into the alloy top. And the later tops, had a torrington race roller bearing. -
How much money?

I'd be looking for a high resistance joint, at either the battery, or starter end of the main cabling. I'd start by undoing the terminals at both ends, and cleaning the surfaces with steel wool or fine sand paper. The tick is probably just the solenoid engaging.

Hyundai iloads like to spit the turbo, after about 100,000km - usually taking the engine with it. $10k min, for a used engine too. A work colleague had it happen to theirs... The internet is littered with similar stories. It's a pity, as they are comfortable vehicles, by all other reports.

Btw, actual trans rebuild kits for the BTR, are about $400, plus any solenoids ontop of that. To have someone rebuild it, usually costs around $1500 - $2000
-
XG trans coolers are again, unique to XG. If you can clean up your one, I'd do that. Trans rebuilds need a very clean environment to do successfully. If it is working ok, just give it a good service - filter/trans fluid - if the fluid is dark red/brown/black. If it's thumping gear changes, it may need a new S5 solenoid.

Part of an electric brake controller?

Awesome, thank mate! Lol, those springband clamps undo the easiest, with the proper tool - See here on ebay - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/182043763895 or here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141491616702

Also, WOW!..... finally I get to see an early XG, with it's original 'Norma spring-band' type top radiator hose clamp on it! That's made my day seeing that, seriously. Can you do me a favour, and take a close up pic of the Ford factory part no. marking, on that top rad hose? and can you also tell me if it says ERS, or NRS embossed into the rubber in tiny writing, or if it says Mackay? Looking at the coarse grain of the rubber, I'd guess it's a Gates hose. (which usually say ERS or NRS, then some numbers) BTW, that's also an AU Falcon header tank up near the firewall, not an XG tank - as the small hoses are facing the wrong direction, and are incorrectly routed. (goes along with the AU radiator I guess?)
-
Yes, they are AU mounts. Go back to XG, if you can afford an XG radiator. They are unique, and hence are a bit pricey. Don't be tempted to buy an ebay Ally one.

And there in lies the problem... I want a nice quiet, safe, grippy and reputable tyre.... to suit 14x6 inch stock wheels. And they don't seem to exist. Not even for a fair price - say $150 - $200/tyre. I'm more than happy to forgo tyre life, for good grip and a quiet ride. It seems Australia has become a dumping ground, for cheap no-name brand chinese tyres.
-
Yeah, it definitely makes them long lasting... LOL!
-
Do they have some there? They'd have to be worth it...
-
If it was 5yrs ago, you could've gotten the last of the Australian made ones. Aussie tyre manufacturing, closed down around 8yrs ago this month. The one plant, produced tyres for Goodyear, Dunlop and Bridgestone brands. (which included Sava Tyres, Kelly Tyres, Supercats, and a few others)
-
Yeah, that's the closest to original stock tyres, at 648mm.
-
That tyre size, is much too small for a falcon, unfortunately. 195/60R14 rolling diameter, is only 590mm Stock, is circa 650mm
-
fixed!
-
Lol ahha! What's the investment costwise? That's an EFI rocker cover gasket btw...
-
I'd try those scotchbrite sanding pads... I have a mini air sander that takes those things. It's very very useful.
-
The only choice, is to get your original bosch unit reco'd, if it needs it. All the wearing parts (Hall Effect sensor, Bronze bush, Cap, rotor etc) are still available. To my knowledge, the OHC 4L Bosch complete dissy's are not being made anymore.
-
Log manifold works better with Turbo's though, afaik...
-
I dunno that I'd trust those Chinese LYO oil seals. Personally, I always get OEM NOK brand seals. (either direct from Ford, or from a bearing wholesalers)

Done and DONE!
