Yeah me too.!! The brain bucket is nearly dry.......... Nothing dripping as far as I can see, but revving it to 1500 rpm, and sticking your face over the carb is highly dangerous, if the rvs drop she backfires and fuel/air/smoke come spewing out. I already go no hair, but, like my eyebrows. LMAO.
Hadn't thought of the exhaust crossover.......hmmmm..
Told my mate we would prob pull the manifold/valve covers off next time. just to reseal them. She doesn't get driven very often, so sits for months at a time. Not a new engine, been in there 15 years, cast iron manifold.

Went direct from the battery and vroom! Started first kick.
Pretty sure we've rigged up a jumper wire already, thinking the rodents had got in. She starts OK, runs sweet with revs, but won't idle. Sat there with the carb idle screwed in for 10 minutes, ran like a top. Kitted out the 600 Holley vac sec, so acc pump works, butterflies are closing/opening when they should, sealant on adaptor plate. etc, etc...
Doing my head in......
Maybe electrical.? Would have thought it would cough under heavy load, but seems the opposite.

Checked it 5 times. Pulled No.1 plug and made sure we had compression stroke, made sure balancer hadn't slipped.

Did this on the XB, was easy and well worth it. 1.3 hp from memory, (original was around 1 hp), lighter, 1/3 of the price of a clapper, Solenoid is clocked better for clearance, although make sure the big cable is pointing upwards, like Greg's, otherwise it will touch the drag link. Ask me how I know.....

OK, Clevo fans......
Question : Mates 351 2V Top Loader XA. Won't idle below 1500-1700 rpm. Initially, the fuel was causing rough running, (rust in tank) so we pulled the tank, replaced the rubber lines, new fuel pump, new fuel filter. Blew all the hard lines backwards. Changed carby 3 times. (2 Holleys and a TQ.) Changed dissy, then New distributor. New leads. New plugs. New coil. She fires up fairly easily, revs sweet and hard above 1500, but wont run below this. Coughs and backfires. Checked for vacuum leaks quickly (carb cleaner while running), all ports on carby blocked or connected. Chased a few wires that looked dodgy, changed out alternator, new earth lead..........
Thoughts, Ideas...??

Quality may have been the issue, back then. No way a major company would spend thousands of hours port shaping, just put on a bigger carby..LMAO...

Thanks Jack. You've put such a lot of time and effort into this project, not just for yourself, but sharing your efforts (both good and bad) to help others.
Good onya bro..

It's on the end of your speedo cable. Where it sits in the side of the gearbox. Small screw or bolt and a plate holding it in, pull it out, circlip holds it on to the cable, through that little slot you can see in the photo.

Yeah, they're sh!t. Wish I had done mine on the XB. Can't believe companies like Felpro still hock that stuff.

As a side to the efi to carry thing does someone have a way for me to get a photo in my little window (don't know the proper name) for my posts and replies etc
Yeah......... emailed Mal Wood, and was shocked at the price too.! Looking at getting a T5 or TKO for the XP project, but SHEESH.!!! might have to go C4, or limit the horsepower output.
Wait,
What.??

HA HA HA....... love that last bit.
Try looking up Unread content, or Content I started, or maybe V8 tech/Windsor/EFI to carb. Then click on the little clock (last time something was posted)

Few things to be wary of, was looking into this conversion myself. Managed to find a carby version, for the same reasons you stated above. Plus I'm old school.

Nice work getting the brake lines done yourself.
Absolutely sure you bled the rears ok.? Air bubbles may cause the lockup. Not many reasons, if you have a proportioning valve fitted.

Check out the photos of the weather strip on GT Ford performance, think they just push in from the top.......maybe. Would probably chip the paint if you prize them off, or you would have to remove the glass and reg to access the spring clips form inside. Honestly can't remember. Sorry.

Repair or Rebirth......??
in Body and Exterior
Posted
Hi all, here's an odd question for you panel guys..... How much of a car can be replaced before it is considered a rebirth.?? 20%, 50%. ?
If you prang the front of an old Falcon, and destroy the rad support panel, the "new" second hand panel will have different ID numbers stamped on it. Later models had it on the shock towers, or firewall etc.. They don't repro a Rad support panel for XL-XM Early birds, so you would have to unpick the busted one and replace it.
Thoughts........??
