Yes, packing with wet sand does work. Stops the pipe from kinking. My great, great grandpappy used to do it....

Just checkin"
Sounds like the relays, if the Hi beams work. Does the XF have relays next to the fuses, under the panel at your right knee?? Or are they all in the engine bay? Been too long, and I drink a lot..............

Not sure about the XF, but, XD's had the shittest headlight switch ever. Replaced a few......
Didn't touch the globes with your fingers did ya ?

Dat's da shit, man !! Very comprehensive and informative.
Cheers.

Ive used the cheap "Auto parts store" ones in my XD, 351 etc, never had one fail. Standard neoprene (black) rubber.
Have also used Nolathene. Not much difference.
Only difference I found was that if my whole front end was Nolathene, ride was very harsh. Went back to Neoprene, and front end was more compliant. Just used the "reds" for heavy duty stuff, like sway bar links. etc...
My 10 cents....

Yeah can be had. But, in the '70's, casting technology was less than accurate. A problem named 'coreshift' occurred, causing bores to be slightly off centre. Most of them have now been bored out and ditched.
Windsor's were generally .040" and Clevo's .060"
I read about a company in the states, that reproduces the Cleveland block BRAND NEW !!!!

Agreed. +1.
Ford uses the coil with the hole in it. Like a woman...
GMH uses the coil with the sticky out bit. Like a .............

Awesome news. Good stuff.

...........just enough to clean the bores.

Maaaaate.........the possibilities are endless !!!
It all comes down to personal preference. Some dudes like Crow Cams, some like Stroker kits, others like Racing fuel.
Speak to engine builder (assuming you are gonna get the block bored??) as he/she needs to know exact piston sizes, BEFORE they machine block.
Pistons and Rings
Mains and Conrod brgs
Cam brgs
Cam and lifters
Overhaul heads - valves, springs, guides
Waterpump - might as well
Full gasket set
Get prices from Speed shops, VPW, Summit, Autopro...... everybody ! ! !

So, you changed out the 'stat ??

Any updates ??
Sounds like a sticky thermostat....

It'll fit, but, need to "massage" the firewall, behind right hand rocker cover, if I remember rightly. Will also need to change fuel line position, put in V8 springs/shocks, re-calibrate speedo/tacho, bit of wiring need re-routing for oil press and water etc etc.

brake line threads are different when i went to try it the other way(XD booster in XF)
didnt end up going any further but i'll back Gaz and Glenn on the subject
Threads are different ??? Don't reckon, Maybe brake lines weren't exactly 90 degrees to the master cyl.

Thanks, for clarification.

Pretty sure they wouldn't go to the expense of making 2 door frames. My guess would be the mechanisms both use the same bolt holes.
Not 100% sure.

Yup, H4 for Hi/Lo, H3 for inner hi beam, T10 for wedges and dash globes, If I remember rightly......... but, I drink a lot.
Been 10 years since I had my XF Ghia. Anyone confirm this ??

Agreed +1. If the cup doesn't come out easily, run a weld around half the cup. It will fall out. Recommend you get the bearings put on the axles with a press.

Have you recently washed the engine? Driven through deep water? Got any air bubbles in radiator with cap off? Does engine overheat? Excessive steam from tailpipe?
oil pressure

Where is noise coming from? Front or back of engine?
What is current oil pressure?
Is the starter motor exactly same as old unit? Some used a thin spacer plate. Without it, ring gear can just touch the teeth on the starter gear.
Does it squeal when you rev it, or at idle?
>10,000kays - shouldnt be anything major.
Checked for Gerbils or mice ?
