My xf falcon power steering pump keeps spitting out fluid
bear351c replied to vanmastrigtmark's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
Do they have a twist and lock cap on the pump filler?? Theres an O-ring on that. -
Kilkenny castings, or GTFord Performance got any.??
-
Clevo's had 2 sizes didn't they..?? Original ones were straight tube, and a stepped tube.?
-
Cool stuff. Yeah, those original Morse chains are fine for stock builds, and super quiet. Not that you'll hear it over the 400. LOL.
-
Looks sweet. Cant wait to hear it rumble......
-
Yeah, weird.....but obviously works.! Even has chrome Powered By Ford rocker covers.LOL.
-
Cheers for that.
-
Measure them both up before you machine them, and let us know the difference, mate. Look like 1-2 mm. (.040 - .080" in old man language)
-
Well, there ya go...... You can see the head of the pedestal is thicker.
-
Both rods the same length.?? Got them the right way round.??
-
Hmmm......... your diff is out of a coil sprung Falcon.?? No reason why it won't fit. Standard fuel tank?? Does it clear when sitting on its wheels.??
-
Fair enough. Clevo bolts fit.??
-
You'll prob find the stepped bolts were to hold a windage tray/stud girdle/accessory/oil strainer in the sump.

Hi mate, looks like a good starting point. Assume you've got GT40p heads to suit the extractors.? Fuel pump, tank and lines are bin job. Tank can be modified for return lines etc, prob easier to grab one from an EFI XF, or ZL. Fuel pump pressure for carbies is approx 5-8 psi, EFI runs around 100.! Get EFI fuel hoses on everthing, pump sits in tank, and has return from fuel rail/injectors. Change to metal fuel filters as well. Been looking for a T5 manual for my next project, they're pretty scarce these days, blokes who have them wont sell. Diff should bolt in with the larger bushes. Aren't they oval shaped or something @Thom ? XF radiator is good enough for a 351 Clevo, so in good nick, will do fine with fan and shroud. AU or EF fans can be fitted if you prefer. Make/modify the shroud. Wiring is sh!t, don't do it, hate it, pay someone else to do it, frekkin hate wiring........ stoopid little crimp lugs, and dumb ar5e coloured cables. ......
-
Good news, if you set it up for a t5 its not very hard to go tko from there in the future HA HA HA.....thanks Thom, as soon as I find that winning lottery ticket I bought. Cant even find a good V8 manual 5 speed.. Reckon I might have to get one out of a XR6 or similar, and down size the horsepower of the engine. Booooo....!!

Brakes dragging after astra pump xy conversion
bear351c replied to Todd's topic in Steering, Suspension and Brakes
Agree 100%. You may end up pushing "junk" fluid back into the master cylinder etc, so flush the whole system out, bleed all the calipers/wheel cyls. Be prepared.! the front caliper pistons may be rusty and need changing, could be expensive. But your life is worth it, Yes.?? -
Some good info here, looking at getting one for the new project XP. Cant afford 5 grand for a TKO...!!!
-
Normally not required if the 2 faces are square, true and flat... but, after 25 years, smear a little on with your finger, both sides. It will piss you off later when it starts weeping oil.
-
I believe the gasket is a heat barrier between the pump and the block.
-
XP.......??
-
Do it anyways........ won't do any harm. Give you a nice new seal surface, also tells you if your valves are bent.

Hi all, here's an odd question for you panel guys..... How much of a car can be replaced before it is considered a rebirth.?? 20%, 50%. ? If you prang the front of an old Falcon, and destroy the rad support panel, the "new" second hand panel will have different ID numbers stamped on it. Later models had it on the shock towers, or firewall etc.. They don't repro a Rad support panel for XL-XM Early birds, so you would have to unpick the busted one and replace it. Thoughts........??
-
No, the rad support panel on my mates car is perfectly straight. Thinking it has been in a bender and replaced way back in the 70's or 80's when you could still get new ones. Yes, you're right. The friend of a friend might have to do just that. But, trying to find a F#$@ed Falcon 2 door with numbers and tags intact is almost impossible.

The problem is when you go to the rego mob, they only believe what the computer tells them. No numbers = Cant be regoed. Local cop shop tells you to go to State rego vehicle inspection centre, they say "car must be driven in, and driven out" No trailers.
