    Line locker fittment

Fitted a B&M line locker on my old XD, Hard finding a brake guy to do the flares i needed. Used to block off the rears, so i could creep forward and steer. Switch fitted on side of console, next to seat. (Very illegal in SA....the Granny State.) but, tons of FUN !!!!

    Xf leaking head gasket

Way to go, fella. Glad to hear it, and you did it all yourself. Nice feeling, isn't it?

    Xf leaking head gasket

Just to be safe, you could set it at 25, then 50, then 75 etc........Do all the bolts up in sequence

    Xf leaking head gasket

Yep, works OK. The gasket should take up any imperfections in the surface, the spray wont hurt anything.

    Xf leaking head gasket

Take your time....... Take photos with your phone, or vid as you go. Then if you're unsure, check the vid. Place all your rockers and pushrods in order, make sure all gasket surfaces are clean and flat. Get a mate to help you, if ya can, 2 sets of eyes is better than one. And he/she must supply the beer. And lastly, take your time.

    What is it?

Yeah, thats what i meant. Fill up with vacuum.

    What is it?

Runs off manifold vacuum, will 'fill up' when your engine is running. It's a bit like a reservoir.
  8. Hi all, Just realised that the cam in my 351C was set up for LPG, so before I install it in the XA, I need to do a cam swap. Looking at a Comp Cams 290HR, anyone know where I can get a good price?? Will need Roller lifters too. Cheers.

Good value Cam supplier in Australia

Would like to try the roller cam, heard good things about them. Reliability, profiles, etc. Any one know if an RPM airgap will fit under an XA bonnet??

For some reason my "Quote" box has stopped copying, the posts......... Yeah Gerg, a bit of Bullshit, checked with Comp Cams webpage, and they recommend the 290HR. Anyhow, it's gonna be a daily bus, work car, shopping trolley, 2 boys and some occasional back seat action, so no racing engine. Maybe.

Nah, Would have to be 1 and 1/3 crossy's for me, to get the right noise........
  14. Yep, too right. As a fellow Maintenance Fitter, I agree with everything Mr J.K. has said. Pre heat, weld, reheat and let cool overnight in the oven. Do not quench it in any oil, lime or water. It will crack. If you're a bit hesitant, is there a local welding company who could do it for you? (Use their oven, wifey might like the idea) I know my Ex used to hate me putting my alloy heads in the dishwasher. Maybe, thats why she's my 'Ex" wife.
  15. Could run a file over the housing, and catch the filings, rub them in your hands, cast iron will leave your hands grey/black. Steel shouldn't. Reckon you could take some photos, gerg? Would be good for future reference.

    Is bigger always better?

So right !!! I've seen so many guys trying to jumpstart a car with those $20 cables from Supacrap, when I lend them my welding cables, their jaws drop. All sorts of excuses, .......bad connection, battery is flat, blah, blah, blah...

    heater core

Shame about that. But, still the other lasted 20 years or so.........
  21. bear351c

    heater core

Pressure test would be about the only way. Radiator joint may be able to do it. They pressurise it, turn off the valves and watch the gauge to see if it moves. My experience, the brown leak is coming from the heater core, I'm guessing your coolant is usually green??

Cool. My first and only Corty was exactly like that.! GL, 2 litre, 4 speed and Canary yellow. Mate, that brings back some memories. Good luck with the build, watching with interest.
