  1. Yes was thinking a B&m Shifter style cable will work, think I have some random leftover brackets from a shifter I had years ago, time rummage thru some boxes

Now I'm using the BW35, tailshaft might now be a problem, I remember years ago about a uni with the different size cups to suit early Falcon tailshaft to the 8" diff... possibly ruj-2039 been googling and sizes seem right ?....

  2. G'day, just wondering what auto flex plate I use if converting a 221 6 cylinder to C4 auto. I have the C4 auto but it came without flex plate, sandwich plate and torque converter. I'll get a new TC when I get the auto reco'd I guess but just want to source whatever I can beforehand.

Also any recommendations for place to rebuild the C4 in melb eastern suburbs ?

    Thanks in advance

    Warren

  3. Anyone know what paint code Z186 would be ? That's what's on my utes ID tag. Ute is currently AU blueprint and will stay that way but nice to know more about the car originally

Pretty sure Z was white but the 186 part could that mean different roof colour or just different shade ?

This ute is a journey of discovery

    Thanks warren

  4. Thanks for responding
So the heater is from XE dated 84 on the wiring tag, and the pipes come up too on firewall.

On the back of intake it's just a two port metal vacuum tree one to booster the other to C10 trans, what does the factory xe V8 have ? I thought they were a white plastic with 3/4 ports ?

Yes correct I have a black, green and orange plastic lines coming into the engine bay all unhooked. Have put the green to heater tap,
On factory V8 XE where would the black (main supply of vac) vacuum connect ?

Once I get that hooked up I can trouble shoot the switching, which could be an XG controls to XE vacuum port problem

The orange has what looks to be a round valve ( assume it's a one way valve ?)

The engine ported vacuum switches have been removed, but if they are for the carb I won't worry about them for now

I found the diagrams for 6 cylinder xd/xe

    Thanks warren

  5. thanks for the replies, the is XE previous 6 cylinder now with clevo and has XG dash and i assume heater. (also has xg front clip)   the previous owner or mechanic workshop has drilled and tapped the manifold above the #8 cylinder and pulled heater tap vacuum from there...wtf !...will be disconnecting that, now to rework the vacuum lines

With the XG heater box/control, the hot/cold dial on the dash moves a lever behind the glove box, so is that  just a blend door ? to mix hot and cold air to get desired temp inside cabin ? if so i assume this also controls the vacuum to the actual heater tap, i have a green skinny vac line and i think orange coming from the firewall into engine bay, both disconnected at this point. the other thing it apepars they  have disabled the ability to stiwtch from screen, to face to feet, again i assume this is vacuum conttrolled

The clevo appears to be an earlier blue block and have most of the original vacuum tree missing (prob why the drilled the manifold).

  6. G'day been checking the net and found different photos of how this is hooked up.

so want to know which hose go to what port on firewall, and which one should have the heater tap ?

    its currently

water pump tube to top tube on firewall

block tube to lower port and this has the heater tap ??

    Thanks
    Warren

i wouldn't have thought  they would be different as well , but after looking at how the leads are hard up against the bottom of the manifold ,there just might be 2 different heights in dissy caps.     i might go to repco tomorrow and ask

yes would like to know this also as i dropped an AU VCT motor into my XH Xr6 (having previous EL motor) and the the dizzy was a total pain, esp. when I put it in a tooth or two out and had to reposition it a few times.....

the build looks like a good one, keep the posts coming !....

With the price of N/A Barra's only a few hundred dollars,

the initial engine investment is cheap, but you need modified loom, unlocked computer, sway bar, upgrade fuel pump,  depending where you are engineers certificate, etc so factor that into any dollar related rationale....im sure it would still come out cheaper than EFI crossflow rebuild ...

the good news is your car being EFI is a big head start ....

But I guess I'll see if I can grab the radiator and fans from the BF and make them fit.

if you watch the series the Castlemaine rodshop did on their XF with turbo barra, pretty sure they used a VL commodore radiator to avoid notching the rail, but had to screw around with radiator hoses.

I used BA stuff on my XE with a scallop taken from the rail...

Ants build thread on his (sleeping with the fish's?)  xe ute is a great blueprint/basis to follow, has good clear pics of the scallop/notch he did, along with the fitting the lower tie bar for the BA/BF radiator

Tuff Mounts do a sway bar that allows them to fit now. and mounts

    https://www.tuffmounts.com.au/product/conversion-kits/tuff-mounts-barra-conversion-kit-into-xa-xf-ford-falcon/

yes good point forgot about that, i used that sway bar, and you can just use normal xe/xf base plates and EA-ED upper mounts, no need for the fancy stuff unless you want to spend the money on it,

i swapped to XE/ZK EFI petrol tank also using EF fuel lines, on a xf ute i would just source XF EFI tank or XG/XH tank and lines

  11. Gday, the n/a barra swap is straight forward, i converted my XE sedan in a weekend during 2019 (barra, t5 with au bellhousing, ebay brought pre made 6 wire to hookup loom and unlocked computer)....did have some troubles with the computer settings which were mostly rectified by a mobile tuning guy afterwards (fault on behalf of the original guy who unlocked), still need to get the temp gauge and handbrake working but its great to drive.

I recently did the AU VCT swap into my xh, and previously done AU VCT into my EF, both again straight forward, aside from the sump mods required, both have J3 tuning chips and are smooth as, but should have just done barra.  the AU VCT engines getting harder to find in good condition and therefore are anywhere from 400-1000...i think my barra conversion owes me 2k all up...

Hi yeah I have a windsor motor in my XF.
    It's a 92 EB GT motor in a 86 XF s-pack.

I can measure some stuff if you need?

HI, just wondering what they did for the wiring ? is it using the factory computer/ loom ? im not putting my 5.0l in a X series but something alot earlier, im planning to reuse the complete NL fairlane loom but have heard will need to defeat the smart lock crap ? i see yours is the earlier motor so might be different again ?

    Thanks Warren

  13. G'Day, just measured some gearboxes i have here

EF/EF measures from front of gearbox case to middle of standard shifter level was 550mm, and its 445mm to middle of mount

AU (i think as thats what it was in) measure from front of gearbox case to standard shifter level was 610mm and its 500mm to middle of mount

i would have to ask @Thom if he's got time to reply.

the benefit of the XF to EL box is also that it fits a standard tail shaft also .. i would imagine you'd need to shorten a tail shaft if using an AU box.

i don't know about the cross member position, i'd keep looking for an XF to EL one personally.

I agree with Dean, look for an EF/EL box (perhaps put your AU one up for swaps),

you will still need a custom gearbox mount or if you can find an EA speed gearbox crossmember, last one on ebay was drug money at $200+ bucks....

In my XE (barra,, T5, EL LSD diff) I simply cut the EL T5 member up and welded onto the back of the standard XE gearbox crossmember, it still uses the EL mount that locates into one squre hole, and everything else was bolt up, i used the E series tailshaft as the diff was changed to EL as well.  I even ran the EL fuel lines with an XE EFi tank (with upgraded in tank pump)

    cheers

  14. Gday, check this thread out for reference, the rear panel needs some trimming to fit the light housings without modding the light housing

    https://www.fordforums.com/threads/xf-into-xe.144591/

the aftermarket XE taillights are Ok quality i have them on my car,... but good second hand ones can still be found in both XD or XE style

also consider the exterior door mould if it has any to match up to the xd/xe guards
