  1. Gee is there still single cylinder listers engines about?     Just been thinking about the above comments about a single battery.  As all the jump starters seem to have alligator clamps I am wondering if you could change them over to 50amp Anderson plug so you could have a permanent connection hard wired to battery an plug jumper into it when needed  even if I use the newer lithium type over agm    ???? Thanks

  2. Cheers sparky  that info about the jumper being all small batteries was an eye opener think I will be staying away from them then.  I think I better do some more researching    Thanks again guys

  3. Hi dean   I am restoring an old 4pot camper van.  It has been fitted with a 4x4 battery 900cca.  This fills the battery cradle under the floor of van.  About 15 minutes to unbolt bed frame to get to battery  A pain to get to in a hurry.   I was thinking of a repco jumper 1200 amp for a temporary solution as I want to use the van first to see if I will use it lol.  2 smaller car batteries will fit but reducing the length of time for running fridges an lights while having a full starter battery versus a small jump starter battery.   Maybe I just have to raid the piggy bank for the smaller batteries an carry a better quality jump starter

  4. Ok. As I am governed on limited room in engine bay   Hopefully someone can give me some advice   I want to install a jump starter,  mounted next to battery as a backup   My aim is to leave it connected to car’s system full time when motor is running an isolate when not thus keeping it charged.    Hard wire output through a on/off switch  to car battery    So is it advisable to leave these small jump starters corrected all the time or do they need to be disconnected when fully charged   And. Any advise on a brand an type of jump starter.

  5. Thanks for that mr Dean    should be professor Dean of the XG. .  Now you have pointed me in right direction I can feel the heads of the screws   I was looking closer to either edge lol   All i gotta do now is limber up to try an remove the f…kers the fun may be putting them back    grr

    thanks Demmo

  6. Hi all. I want to swap my xg standard gauges to the  multi gauge. Unit.  The replacement cluster is from xg as well.  The surround has 2 fixing points along the base which seems to be fixed to the dash surround by ?  They seem to be a flat headed bolt    How do you get to these do I need to remove dash or is there a special tool for it   I can’t pull any more hair out as I am already bald lol.  Any help an guidance would be great    Demmo

  8. Hi sparky. The tranny in question is from my own au  which I have owned for 14 plus  years is dedicated gas and drove ok. Problem was our local servos stopped selling gas and handed in their gas ticket. Trying to save a dollar thought I would use tranny into my xg ute. So I guess it’s. How long is. a piece of string.   Interested to know more about/how. To check existing auto re your reply b1 band. Maybe I could get someone that could look at xg an fix it instead of replacing it.   Sorry about the lengthy reply

  9. A question for the specialists out there. We are in the process of removing a auto trans from a au ford which has clocked 345 thousand. Now it worked ok changing ect. as it should h  Some oil from the oil lines on trans drained out and is black in colour with no hint of being red. So has anyone seen this before and if they replaced filter an oil  did the transmission last long. Don’t want to reinstall it in my ute only to have it f,,,up. in a short time   Any thoughts. advise please

  10. Ok have been searching through the forum and found that au bell housing will need to be swapped for the xg.  So that’s a start hopefully there is nothing else. Will keep looking   If anyone has done the swap would love to hear   help build my confidence a bit.  Lol

  11. Hi all. Been a while since I was here.  Anyway I have a 2000 auto au  which drives ok, but as it’s dedicated gas an our local servo does not sell lpg  it has been left parked up.    My xg ute has decided it only wants to go forward on 2 gears. So     I am told that the auto from the au will bolt up to xg motor. Is this correct. Has anyone done this swap. All help appreciated.
I wish I had done more hands on when I was younger    Cheers Demmo

Hi Demmo, how did you go with this stuff? My XG front bumper needs repairing and saw this post.

mate i did buy the glue   but the catch was you need the gun to go with it which was dearer   so that got put on shelf  lol   i ended up borrowing a hot plastic  staple gun  then bogged over it an painted it turned out better than i expected  there is some good videos of bumper repairs on youtube .

can't take a pic as the ute is gone.   now tinkering with another one but its a very  s l o w  job lol

  13. I just top up the fuel tank to full. Rare occasion for xg trailer lol. Started the ute engine fired noticed smart lock light on for 4 or 5 seconds then went out an at same time fuel gauge turned off   Did this stop start a few times and each time light out an fuel gauge goes to off   So for the bright sparks is there a power connection between the two  I should look for to fix  Everything else electrical works as it should don’t want the old girl to stop on me especially now rains are here an paddocks wet so slip sliding away action time haha I would be gelded if I did it in the new ute lol so you see the xg is needed     Thanks an cheers Demmo

  14. just a quick question my mate has fitted a xf falcon carby motor with pedal setup into an old truck and  has lost the accelerator cable. can anyone tell me if the cable from a efi motor is the same or not.   hoping this info will reduce his time looking for replacement  thanks Demmo

  15. ok people I would like to know if anyone has repaired splits/cracks in front bumpers successfully  using a glue  or two pac product.  as a local bouncy kick boxer used his head to ram me the other night. the impact folded the bumper upwards causing the plastic corner to split  I believe there is plastic welding repair places in the metro area but I am hoping I can repair it at home       any thoughts or advice appreciated    o  and this time the ford won

  16. Not sure if this could create a problem in your ford or not     but  if the booster draws a lot of power it may be advisable to use the blue feed into a relay first then power out to audio booster so you reduce the overload for whatever the blue wire was designed for.   my young son wired up a sound system once and the onboard computer immobilized the vehicle (bmw) thinking it was being hot wired.  from memory they ended up direct coupling to battery through a relay which had a low voltage cut out protection.

  17. good to see you guys learnt enough at school to understand  all that to get the air con working   way over my head and last time i had the au regassed costa lot   worked for a month took it back to my friend who is another like  "jacks mate"  so your not alone outback  lol   think the c.....t  left town years ago  but my cheap solution was engel 40  an windows down for cool down on long drives works a treat still works today but have to admit the h2o liquid is a lot clearer now lol   hope it all goes well for ya Grimmy

On the top of the battery is there a small square sticker with a recycle symbol and four numbers?
Sticker could be purple, white, orange, green, yellow or possibly other colour.

yes it has a purple recycle sticker with 1806 printed on it        so at a guess does that mean manufactured  June 2018 ?

@Demmo is the battery gloss black or matte?

If it's gloss it's a Century battery with Repco stickers, made in Australia.

If it's matte, it's a Yuasa battery - owned and distributed by Century but made overseas.

    Thanks for all the replies

ok the battery case is gloss black    the transfers say it is manufactured by century-Yuasa  Queensland.   Stamped across top of case says. Made in Australia.  The sticker on the side says repco. Sealed battery with 36.  But it doesn’t have anything stamped or written to indicate the age of it.    Why I would like to know the age is it’s fitted to a camper with duel battery’s . The other battery a century is 2 years old it’s a 24 month warranty so towards end of life.  I’m told it’s best to match the batteries in age and cca.  So looks like it’s best I replace both before I go a wandering
